Lesson 5:
Using a Slide
Presentation with
Multimedia

Lesson Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to do the
following:
1.Define slide and multimedia;
2.Explain how to navigate the slide presentation software;
3.Cite the basic tools and functions of slide presentation
software;
4.Show how to create a multimedia presentation; and
5.Convert the slide presentation into a multimedia video file.
Slide
A single page of
presentation
created with
software such as
PowerPoint or
Open Office
Impress.
Presentation
Is composed of
several slides. The
best presentation
uses approximately
ten to twelve slides
to get the message
across.
Multimedia
Is defined as media that combines
different content forms such as text,
audio, images, animation, and video to
get a multi-faceted finished product.
Navigating the
Slide Presentation
Software
1. The Ribbon Bar
It contains different tabs that reveal a set of controls
specific to that tab.

HOME TAB – where you INSERT TAB – where DESIGN TAB – where
begin to format the slide. you insert various types of you edit the look of your
objects. slides.
2. The Current Slide

It is basically
the slide you
are currently
working on.
3. The Status Bar

It tells you
the slides
that is
currently
displayed.
Basic Tools and
Functions of a Slide
Presentation
Software
1. Home
It is basically your starting point in creating a
presentation. This is your main tab when changing the
layout of your slides, adding text, pictures, and media.
2. Themes
a. It is where you change
the theme of your slides.
This is where you edit
the look of your
presentation.
b. To apply themes, simply
click the theme you want
and it will automatically
be applied on the entire
presentation.
3. Transitions
a. This is where you add effects to your presentation
when you are moving from slide to slide. For
example, you can have the next slide fade into the
current slide appear from the side of the screen.
b. To create a transition, move to slide to which you
want to apply the transition. Then, select the
transition you want to apply to the slide.
c. It will give you previews of how the transition will be
on the slide you have selected.
4. Animations
a. This adds entrance and exit effects to the text that
appears on the slide. This is important when you need
to emphasize a certain point during your presentation
as it allows you to select which bullet you want to
display first.
b. To apply an animation effect, first, you need to select
the text box that you want to animate.
c. Then, chose the animation you want to apply to the
text box. It will display the preview of the animation
on the selected item.

Formatting SmartArt Graphics
After you place the SmartArt graphic on your slide, you need to
format it to fulfill your requirements:
 You might want to add or edit text.
 You might want to change the theme color or apply a style to
the shapes.
 You might want to add or remove shapes within the SmartArt
graphic.
 You might want to realign or resize the SmartArt graphic.
 You might want to change another SmartArt graphic variant.

Add Shape
Adds another shape
to the selected
SmartArt graphic.
Add Bullet
Adds a bullet at the
same level as the
selected text.
Right to Left
Changes the direction
of the chosen element
such as an arrow from
right to left. This is a
toggle option.
Layout
Enables you to change
hierarchy level of the
selected SmartArt
graphic component.
Promote
Promotes the level of
the selected SmartArt
graphic component.
Demote
Demotes the level of
the selected SmartArt
graphic component.
Text Pane
Makes the text pane
visible so that you can
also edit the SmartArt
graphic text as bullet
If you click Text
points. This is a toggle Pane, this will
appear on the
option. screen.
Layouts
Shows more layouts in the SmartArt graphic
type – so if you have organization chart on the
slide, this shows you more SmartArt graphic
layouts for organization charts.
Change Colors
Lets you change the color
combination of the
elements contained in the
SmartArt graphic.
SmartArt Styles
Provides more styles of the selected
SmartArt graphic, with changing colors and
effects.
Reset Graphic
Resets the graphic to
the original SmartArt
graphic, which is
helpful if you have
resized elements.
3. How to Insert and
Edit Photos
Inserting Photos
To insert a picture from a file, select the Insert
tab, then click the Pictures command in the
Images group.
a. A dialog box will appear. Locate and select
the desired image file, then click Insert.
b. The picture will appear on the currently slide.
Editing Photos
1. Beginning afresh, open MS PowerPoint and
switch to the Insert tab. Choose to insert a
picture to the slide.
Here is the image
that we inserted. We
plan to crop to a
round shape and
extract the START
button from it.
2. Once the image is imported, Picture Tools
will get activated and click on Format to
modify the image.
3. Click on
Picture Shape
and select the
shape you desire.
We selected oval.
4. The redundant
parts the picture
gets cropped. But
that’s not the
desired results is
it? So, click on the
Crop tool.
5. now, drag the cropping
lines and edges to
removed the unwanted
portions of the picture.
