SAN JOSE IS ONE OF THE 32 MUNICIPALITIES OF BATANGAS PROVINCE. It has a total area of 5,954.3 ha or 1.88% of the total land area of Batangas Province. Once a wilderness with buffalo, birds and other wild animals. AETAS were the first inhabitants. San Jose was called MALAKING TUBIG . Bauan (1596)- ecclesiastical unit, Malaking Tubig was one of its barrios. Population started to grow 1754. Became a Pueblo (Town) 26 April, 1765

The first ever mayor of the municipality of San Jose is Ignacio de los Santos who began to govern the municipality in the year 1767. Since its establishment, there have been 146 mayors who governed the municipality.

Growth rate: 4.03% annually 1999 population: 48, 556 Projected Population for 2015 is 71,759 and 82,562 for the year 2020. 24,821 or 51% are males and the remaining 49% are females. Working age group: 58.15% , Dependent population: 41.85%

The municipality of San Jose is basically an agricultural-based municipality. Livestock and poultry raising both in commercial and backyard scale is carried out throughout the municipality. (1.8M layers) Feed mills There are also establishments, both commercial and residential, which shows the changes in the economy and the standard of living of the residents.

Agricultural activities of the municipality are being supported through seed distribution, education and technical assistance by the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist

Fast developing yet the ancestral houses and the historic sites still stand there as witnesses of the changes from the past up to the present and hopefully, the future as well. Mostly comprised of plants and agricultural land though there are establishments, both commercial and non-commercial. The municipality is clean and the streets are almost trash-free.

San Jose has twelve (12) industrial establishments consisting of six (6) feed mills, two (2) rice/corn mills, one (1) manufacturing plant and three (3) engineering works and machine stops. Area occupied by these industrial establishments is 3.7708 hectares. There are also small cottage industries like bag making, rug making, slipper making, floor wax making.

There also small livelihoods like selling of fruits and vegetables in small establishments and stalls and there are also a lot of food vendors all over the area.

It has good road infrastructures. It is accessible via land. It is traversed by a number of national and provincial roads connecting the towns of Batangas City, Lipa City and San Pascual. It is about 14 kilometers from Batangas City. From Manila, travel time is around 2 hours. 24-hour service of public utility vehicles.

Sinuam is derived from the Tagalog word suam which means to let it swim . It is a delicacy popularly known in the Province of Batangas where egg is cooked in a cooking pot, pan or kettle with boiling water and with condiments Every 25th day of April, which is also the founding anniversary of San Jose, the local government, schools, NGOs and other establishments in the town, organize the Sinuam Festival.

Like most festivals, they also have street dancing. Students from different schools in San Jose usually participate in the said festival. They showcase their Sinuam (Egg or Chicken) inspired costumes and dance on the street before a number of audiences. They also conduct contests, programs and funfilled activities for local folks and tourists.
