AMMETER
Ammeter
The ammeter is used to measure current and
must be connected in series with the load to
permit the load to limit the current flow.
VOLTMETER
VOLTMETER
The voltmeter is designed
to be connected directly
across the source of
power.
A voltmeter is an
instrument used for
measuring
electrical potential
difference between two
points in an electric circuit.
WATTMETER
The wattmeter is an instrument for measuring
the electric power (or the supply rate of
electrical energy) in watts of any given circuit.
The traditional analog wattmeter is an
electrodynamic instrument. The device consists
of a pair of fixed coils, known as current coils,
and a movable coil known as the potential coil.
The current coils connected in series with the
circuit, while the potential coil is connected in
parallel.
MEGGER
MEGGER
The Megger insulation tester is a small, portable
instrument that gives you a direct reading of
insulation resistance in ohms or megohms. For good
insulation, the resistance usually reads in the
megohm range.
Typical Megger test instrument hook-up to measure
insulation resistance.
MULTIMETER
A multimeter or a Multitester, also known as a VOM
(Volt-Ohm meter), is an electronic
measuring instrument that combines several
measurement functions in one unit. A typical
multimeter would include basic features such as the
ability to measure voltage, current, and resistance.
Analog Multimeters use a microammeter whose
pointer moves over a scale calibrated for all the
different measurements that can be made.
Digital Multimeters (DMM, DVOM) display the
measured value in numerals, and may also display a
bar of a length proportional to the quantity being
measured.

Many electricians use the clamp-on type of AC ammeter.
