A Humorouus Speech is a speech with humor

from start to finish. It may or may not contain a
moral lesson.

speech. .
Why put HUMOR in your speech?

It catches your audience’s attention. Your audience
is awake.

It lightens up a heavy or technical or dry topic.

Your audience will feel you are more relatable.
In the next few slides, I will share with you some
humor techniques.
Using names of people your
audience knows in your speech

This will definitely catch the attention of the
audience. Why? The audience will visualize the
people you mentioned.

people are okay.)

Be sure that the audiece knows the persons
you are mentioning.
Use of Triads

Triads are an enumeration of 3 items like: Tom,
Dick and Harry, The Good, The Bad and The
Ugly, Good, Better, Best.

As a humor technique, triads are very effective
especially when the third item is the punchline.
Mention of unexpected or surprising
items

Laughter is elicited when there is an element of
surprise.

In the list of interview questions, the question
“What is the statement of the problem?” was
added. Of course, it is not an interview question.

the coffee I drank. SURPRISE # 1.

BUT I was told the coffee I was to pay for would
constitute my first sale.. SURPRISE # 2
The Power of the PAUSE

Always PAUSE before delivering your
punchline.

Ex: “Like Kamala Harris, I only have one client
… pause … MYSELF.
Use PUNS.

PUNS are a play of words and a play on words.

Ex: Coffee and Face is a pun on copy and paste.

Another example: It is a brewtiful day. (by Norvelle,
promoting her coffee jelly.)
Other examples of use of words

Rejection is redirection. They reject me. I
redirect my samples to myself.

IRONY is a contradiction of the events with a
surprise ending.

salesman. So, now you’re fired!
Self-Deprecating Humor

yourself. This kind of humor is very EFFECTIVE.

you are. They can poke fun at you.

You are not putting down other people. You are
puttong down yourself.
