ABSTRACT :
Internet of Things (IoT) is increasing day by day. With the
development of communication technology, every product is
manufactured with smart activities. From the past decade, most
electric devices are operated automatically using remote control. IoT
facilitates the seamless connection of devices through sensors, enabling them to work
together without human intervention. IoT is used to connect various devices
easily with the help of sensors. All the connected devices work
automatically without human intervention. The role of human
beings is to control and manage the connected devices from a
remote location. One significant application of IoT is in smart energy meters. This
paper explores the design and functionality of a smart energy meter system. The
system automatically records electricity consumption in kilowatt-hours (kWh) and
displays it on an LED screen. It also calculates the corresponding bill amount, which
is then sent to the consumer's website and smartphone. Additionally, the system is
capable of sending alert messages when electricity consumption exceeds a predefined
threshold, helping consumers to manage their energy use efficiently.
INTRODUCTION:
• The smart energy meter reads the power consumption in
kWh automatically.
• It also calculates the bill amount for the units consumed.
• The consumer can check the power consumption in the web
interface and can set the threshold if required.
• If the power consumption reaches maximum threshold limit,
the Smart Energy meter will shutdown the power supply.
• User has to reset the threshold value if further power
consumption is required.
• It also consists of prepaid module.

METHODOLOGY :
This proposed smart meter is used to automatically measure
energy consumption and automatically calculate the bill with
the help of IoT. This work deals with the energy consumption
units measured from the user's location and calculates the bill
consisting of hardware and software parts. After the
calculation process, the controller sends the bill to the
concerned user. Simultaneously, the bill will be updated on the
user's website using the Wi-Fi module. An advanced energy
meter accurately measures electrical energy consumption and
provides extra information because compared to a
conventional energy meter; the system is developed by the
Aurdino microcontroller. The smart meter's main advantage is
it alerts us when our energy consumption crosses the actual
limit by sending a message. These smart meters can measure
the reading and send the information to the customers within
a small-time interval.
