Networks

Year 8
What is the network ?

• A network is a group of interconnected devices such as computer severs, printers

and routers that are connected together to share resources and communicate with
each other .
• The devices in a network can be connected through wired and wireless
connections .

• They use a set of protocols rules to control the flow of information between them.
• Networks are and essential part of modern technology they are used in while
range of applications such as internet access, online communication ,data storage,
backup and many more .
Types of network
Local Area
Network (LAN)

• This is a network that

connects devices in small
areas such as classrooms or
school.
• LANs can be wired or
wireless .
• They allow devices to share
resources and communicate
with each other
Wide Area
Network (WAN)

• This type of network

connets devices over a
larger area such as a
school district or a city.
• WANs often relies on
public lines to connect
devices.
Wireless Local
Area Network
(WLAN)

• This type of a
network uses wireless
Technology such as
Wi-Fi to connect
devices in small areas.
• WLANS are commonly
used in classrooms
libraries and other
public spaces.
Cloud base network
• This type of a network uses
the internet to connect
devices to a remote server
which provides storage and
other resources.
• cloud base networks are
becoming increasingly popular
in education because the
allows students and teachers
to access resources and
collaborate on projects from
anywhere.
Peer to Peer
Network

This type of a network

connects devices directly to
each other without the need
for a central server.
Peer to peer networks are
useful for small groups of
students who need to share
resources or working projects
together.
Byte Boosters
• Hubs and Switches are networking devices that connect multiple
device is together in a local area network.
• The first email was sent over a network in 1971 it was sent by a
computer engineer Ray Tomlinson and it said “ q w e r t y u i o p”.
• The cloud is just another word for network of servers that are
connected together when you store files on the cloud they are
actually being stored on an network of server somewhere else in the
world.
