First Conditional
O The first conditional is a structure used
for talking about possibilities in the
present or in the future.
Example:

If you study hard, you will pass your


English test easily.
The structure of a first conditional
sentence

A first conditional sentence consists of two clauses, an "if"


clause and a main clause:
IF clause (condition) main clause (result)
If + subject + present subject + will + verb
tense verb
If you study you will pass
hard, the test.
If the "if" clause comes first, a comma is usually used. If the
"if" clause comes second, there is no need for a comma:

main clause (result) IF clause (condition)


subject + will + verb If + subject + present tense
verb
you will pass if you study
the test hard.
O To talk about the result of a situation, you can
use a suitable future form: will, might or be
going to.
Examples:

O If I work hard, I will get good marks.


O If I work hard, I might get good marks.
O If I work hard, I am going to get good marks.

O If I get good marks, my parents will
buy me a new cellphone.
O If I get good notes, my parents are
going to take me on holidays.
O If I get good marks, my parents
