    HISTORY OF
    THE HOTEL
    • In 1927, Newlyweds J. Willard and
    Alice S. Marriott opened the first A&W
    root beer franchise named "The Hot
    Shoppe" in Washington, D.C.

    • In 1957, when the Marriotts opened


    their first hotel, the "Twin Bridges Motor
    Hotel", in Arlington, Virginia. Later on, it
    expanded and eventually became
    "Marriott International"
    • In 1967, Marriott opened its 100th
    hotel.

    • In 1983, The company introduced


    "Courtyard by Marriott" to cater to
    business travelers.

    • In 1993, Marriott split into two


    companies—Marriott International and
    Host Marriott Corporation.

    • In 2016, Marriott International


    acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts for
    $13 billion. This acquisition added
    brands like Sheraton, Westin, and St.
    Regis to Marriott's portfolio.
    • Present, Marriott International is
    headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland,
    USA, and operates in over 130 countries
    with over 30 brands and 8,000 properties
    globally.
