INTRODUCTION:
Traffic congestion is becoming one of the critical issues with increasing
population and vehicles in cities day after to day.

Key points:
What is Smart control Traffic light with AI cameras?
How it works?
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
The current traffic light system is not well due to the following:
 It cause traffic congestions.
 Doesn’t provide priority for side with high vehicle density.
 Time delay of a system is divided equally on both sides of roads.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

The main objective of this proposed system is to design smart traffic light
control system with cameras to utilize live images of the vehicles at traffic
junctions for traffic density calculation using image processing.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

 To design interface between Cameras with Computer for capture the

image of vehicles and processing(count) them.
 To design interface between computer and Micro controller for decide
which side will be allowed at sometimes and which side will be blocked
at sometimes.
 To design interface between Micro controller and LED for HIGH(turn
on) and LOW(turn off) the LED.
METHODOLOGY

 Literature review
 Consult of supervisor
 Identification of different problem encounter my design
 Analysis of different challenges
 Design and implementation
 Writing of report
LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Allan M Woods Traffic control means (1965-06-15). There
are three components: traffic lights, queue detectors buried in the road
and/or cameras, and a central control system. The queue detectors tell
the control system the state of traffic flow on all the main roads in the
city. The system in turn controls the lights to maintain a free flow of
traffic within the city.
Every two seconds the system uses a model of real-world conditions to
decide whether there would be an advantage in changing the phasing of
any of the lights. What the system software considers an ‘advantage’
may be defined as punctual buses, lower pollution at a particular
location, or fewer vehicles queuing on a motorway slip ramp.

LITERATURE REVIEW CONT…

Reinforcement learning based Traffic Light Controller described by Thorpe

(1997). In this system, neural network is used for the traffic-light based
value function which predicts the waiting time for all cars standing at the
junction.
This means that traffic light controller has to deal with a huge number of
states, where learning time and variance may be quite large.
Traffic signals are the most convenient method of controlling traffic in a
busy junction. But we can see that these signals fail to control the traffic
effectively when a particular lane has more traffic than the other lanes.

Limitation of the project

 Traffic congestions.
 The system doesn’t provide priority for side with high vehicles density.
PROPOSED SYSTEM

Traffic congestion is becoming one of the critical issues with increasing

population and automobiles in cities. The need for optimizing traffic control
to better accommodate this increasing demand arises.
To overcome this problem, I as an ICT student I decide to develop the
smart traffic light control system with cameras that will helps to eliminate
the delay of vehicles on roads.

Proposed System cont…
Functions of each block in attached diagram.
 (MCU) Micro controller unit: MCU is for decide which side will be
allowed for sometimes and which side will be blocked for sometimes.
 (CMP) Computer: CMP is for receive number of vehicles and perform
the operations.
 (CMR)Cameras: Cameras is for capture the image of vehicles.
 (LED) Light Emitting Diodes: LED are sign words to convey
information to road users. These devices are made with retro reflective
materials that reflect light from head lights back towards the driver’s
eyes.
 POWER SUPPLY: For supply the power.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROPOSED SYSTEM

 The main significance of proposed system is to reduce and eliminate

road congestions.
 It provide priority for side with high vehicles density.
 Time delay of a system is divided depends on the density of
vehicles.
SCOPE OF PROPOSED SYSTEM
 The scope of this proposed system is to develop a smart traffic light using
cameras , for eliminate or reduce the delay of vehicles based on traffic
lights areas.
LIMITATION OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

 Design costs.
 More experience needed when designing.
 Requirement of Power.
DATA COLLECTION

Data collection that performances as a guideline to designing the system. During the
data collection I was collect data for verification of existing system through the
following methods;

Observation at TOWN AREA, observation and research is about congestions of

automobiles(vehicles) on traffic areas.

Interview was conducted to different drivers in order to collect significant feedback

for further information and extensive knowledge on the topic for the traffic light
system.
DATA COLLECTION CONT...
 Observation
At TOWN AREA, I have observed there are an important of making
this system, because on the current traffic light system is not well
because it doesn’t provide priority for side with high vehicle density.
DATA COLLECTION CONT...
Also this is another picture of situation according to my observation which show traffic
congestions of vehicles on traffic area at M/KWEREKWE MCHINA STREET.
DATA COLLECTION CONT...
 Interview

Through the Interview, after meeting the some drivers , police officer and other people
which across at the road with developer of this system I explained according to my
project system and also asked some questions to the projects, the questions that I ask is
such as :
 What causes of congestions on traffic light areas, especially at Mchina Mwanzo .
 Division of time(time delay) of system is for how much (min , sec etc).
DATA COLLECTION CONT...

From the interview that I conduct, I get some result as a follows;

 This project it will be needed because it reduce congestions on
the traffic jams.
 This project it will be give the priorities for emergence vehicles
to run first on the road.
 It provide priority for side with high vehicle density.

 Fritizing for drawing circuit
 Proteus for simulation
CONCLUSION

Road congestion on roads look high day after day, this chapter focuses on
the findings of this Proposed project study. The entire proposed project deals
with the implementation of Automatic smart traffic light control system that
compose cameras. It comprises of the Proposed project introduction,
