Catch-up Friday

Grade 6- English
Parts of the Sentence
Objectives
a.) identify parts of a sentence, subject
and predicate;
b.) construct one’s own sentences with
subject and predicate;
c.) make a reflective drawing on the
importance of peace to our day to day life.
Key Concept
•A sentence has two basic parts.
•The first part of the sentence is usually the subject. The subject is made up of a
noun or a pronoun and all its modifiers. It is the part that is being talked about in
the sentence. It is the doer of the action in the sentence.
•A subject can be simple. It can also be complete. Simple subject is only the noun
or pronoun being talked about in the sentence. A complete subject is the noun, or
the pronoun being talked about in the sentence and all the words following it
before the predicate.
•The second part of a sentence is called the predicate. The predicate usually
consists of a verb and its modifiers. It tells something about a subject. It tells the
action done by the subject in the sentence.
•The predicate can be simple. It can also be complete. A simple predicate is merely
the verb in the sentence, the action word. A complete predicate is the verb and all
the words following it. It is called verb phrase.
