Pressure
Hydrostatic Pressure
the branch of fluid mechanics that deals with the study of fluids
at rest and the forces acting on them. It is concerned with the
pressure distribution within fluid systems, buoyancy and
stability of floating bodies, among the other things.
Given:
h = 1 m Find : Pressure
ρ = 997 kg/m³
g = 9.8 m/s2
Solution:
P = ρgh
P = (997 kg/m³)(9.8 m/s2)(1 m)
A cylindrical tank
contains oil with a
density of 53 lbs/ft3.
The tank has a
diameter of 2m and
a height of 5m.
Calculate the
hydrostatic pressure
at the bottom of the
tank.
SOLUTION:
GIVEN : CONVERTION
ρ=53 lbs/ft3 53 LBS/FT3 = ( 1KG ) (3.28 FT 3
(2.20 LBS) (1 M3 )
g=9.8m/s2 = 850 KG/M3
h=5m
P = ρgh
P= (850 kg/m3)
Find = P (9.8 m/s2)(5 m)
P = 41,650N/m2 or

Given:
If we assume that the
F = 1.50 N or tympanum is circular in
F = 1.50 Kg m/s2 shape, then the area is:
d= 8.20mm
d = 8.20x10-3 m
ρ = 1.03x103 kg/m3 A=
g = 9.8 m/s2
Find : h
A = 5.281 x10-5 m2
Solution:
Formula:
F/A = pgh
F = pghA
