Pixels

Digital images are made


from thousand or millions of
pixels (PICture ELementS)

To make an image, the


pixels are assigned different
colours
Storing Image Data

Each colour in the image is given a


number and the pixels are coloured
in with the specified colour.

● Colour depth is the number of bits available for each pixel.

● Resolution is how tightly packed the pixels are.

● The file size of an image increases with colour depth and


resolution.

● Metadata is additional information included with an image file


such as file type, colour depth and resolution.
