Period: The period refers to the amount of time it takes for something
to complete one full cycle.
Imagine a cycle like a merry-go-round going around once. The time
it takes for the merry-go-round to make a complete circle and return
to its starting point is the period.

Frequency: Frequency is the number of cycles that occur in a given

amount of time. It tells us how many times something happens in a
specific period.
If the merry-go-round completes two circles in one minute, its
frequency is two cycles per minute.

In summary, the period is the time for one complete cycle, and
frequency is how many cycles happen within a specific time frame.

They are related: Frequency = 1 / Period.

So, if you know the period, you can find the frequency, and vice versa.

Problem 1: A pendulum completes 20 full swings back and forth in 10 seconds. What is the
period and frequency of the pendulum's motion?
Now, let's solve each problem:

Frequency (f) = Number of swings / Time taken

Period (T) = 1 / Frequency

Try solving on your own by plugging in the information into the formulas above. Check your
answers on the next slide.

Problem 1: A pendulum completes 20 full swings back and forth in 10 seconds. What is the
period and frequency of the pendulum's motion?
Now, let's solve each problem:

Solution to Problem 1: Number of swings (cycles) = 20 Time taken = 10 seconds

Frequency (f) = Number of swings / Time taken f = 20 / 10 = 2 swings
per second
Period (T) = 1 / Frequency T = 1 / 2 = 0.5 seconds

So, the period of the pendulum's motion is 0.5 seconds, and its frequency is 2 swings per
