Introduction

Christian Dior (January 21, 1905 - October


23, 1957) was a famous French fashion
designer, also known as the founder of
one of the world's leading fashion houses,
Christian Dior S.A., now owned by
billionaire Bernard Arnault.
Family
• Dior is the second child of Mr.
Maurice Dior, a fertilizer and
chemical manufacturer, and his
mother, Madeleine Martin.

• Dior had an older brother, Raymond,


whose daughter was a Nazi
sympathizer. Their sister was a
member of the French Resistance

His parents wanted him to become a
diplomat, and Christian Dior studied
political science at the University of Paris.
However, his true passion was art, and,
while in his early 20s, he began selling
illustrations on the street.

• 1937: After his gallery was closed due to the economic
crisis, Dior decided to pursue a career in fashion design.
He began working for designer Robert Piguet and
quickly made his mark in the fashion world.

• 1946: Christian Dior founded his own fashion house,


with financial backing from French businessman Marcel
Boussac. France was recovering from World War II, and
Dior saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and
new to women’s fashion.

• 1947: Dior launched his first collection, known as the
"New Look". The collection was distinguished by long
skirts, cinched waists, broad shoulders, and rich fabrics.
The "New Look" restored femininity and elegance to
women’s fashion after the hardships of wartime.

• 1957: After Christian Dior passed away, the Dior brand


continued to thrive under the leadership of designers
like Yves Saint Laurent and many others who followed.
Dior became one of the most iconic luxury brands in the
world.

Award, primarily for his outstanding contributions to
the fashion industry, especially with the "New Look"
style.
