the numbers in each of the following sets?
a. Set A c. Set D
b. Set C d. Set E
2. Can you cite specific uses of these
numbers in real life? Give at least one (1).
“What is the
difference
between
numbers and
numerals?”
Numbers and Numerals
A number represents a
mathematical quantity or value,
while a numeral represents a
number. The number is a
concept, and the numeral is the
way we write it.
Example:
A number “four” can be expressed
as 4 in Arabic numerals and IV in
Roman numerals.
“What is a Real
Numbers?
REAL NUMBER
Real numbers are grouped into
subsets. These are Counting or
Natural Numbers, Whole Numbers,
Integers, Rational Numbers, and
Irrational Numbers.
NATURAL/ COUNTING NUMBERS

Natural/Counting Numbers.
The set of numbers used for
counting.
WHOLE NUMBERS

Whole numbers. The set

of counting numbers
including zero.
INTEGERS
Integers. The set of
natural numbers, their
opposites (the negative
numbers), and zero.
RATIONAL NUMBERS

Rational Numbers. The

set of numbers that can

fraction 𝑎 𝑏 , where a and

be expressed as a

b are integers and 𝑏≠0.

IRRATIONAL NUMBERS

Irrational Numbers. The set of

a fraction , where 𝑎 and 𝑏 are

numbers that cannot be written as

integers and 𝑏≠0 or simply, the

numbers that are not rational.
Identify all the elements belonging to the following set.

a. Natural/Counting
Numbers
b. Whole Numbers
c. Integers
d. Rational Numbers
e. Irrational Numbers
Identify to which the following numbers belong by putting a check mark in the
corresponding cell.
Identify to which the following numbers belong by putting a check mark in
the corresponding cell.
Locating
Numbers in
the Real
Number Line
Locate the following; -2.5 -
√2
𝟏𝟓 𝝅 𝟐𝟎
− −𝟒𝟐−. 𝟓𝟐 √ 𝟐
𝟗𝝅
Plot -2, 0, 7/2, √23 and 2.25 on a number line.
Given the set of numbers below, arrange in ascending and
descending orders.

S = {12, 5/3 ,√7, 0, -38, -√2, 571, 𝜋,

−1/10 , 0.666…, 16.34}.

√7,𝜋,12,16.34,571
a. ascending order: −38,−√2,−1/10,0,0.66.., 5/3,

b. descending order: 571,16.34,12,𝜋,√7, 5/3,

0.66..,0,−1/10 ,−√2,−38
Tell if the following is true or false

true
_______ a. −2.3 > −5
_______
false b. 13/5 < 1.5
true
_______ c. 0 < 2/3

e. 𝜋 > 22
true
_______ d. √5 > 1.5
_______
false

of each of the subsets of real
numbers?
Generalization 3.How is the set of real
numbers related to its
subsets, like the set of natural
numbers, integers, rational
numbers, and irrational
numbers?
Formative
