OBJECTIVES:
• Relate one’s self to discover purposes, abilities and
limitations;
• Discuss the importance of self – awareness in
relating with others;
• Explain the link between self – awareness and
values education.
WHAT IS SELF?
Self is that the inner force, common to all human
beings and yet unique in each, which is the deep
source of growth.
SELF - ACCEPTANCE
Is to let the individual understand and accept himself
before others.
SELF - AWARENESS
On the other hand, means to accept one’s self, one’s
strength and weakness to the extent that one
develops a clear picture of personhood; to reveal
oneself to others by investing or taking risk towards
growth; to express one’s feelings and in a loving
concern.
• The key to you inner Self is: awareness
• Your inner self is Subtler; it can easily be
overpowered by your personality due nature of
defenselessness.
SELF - AWARENESS AND IT’S IMPORTANCE
• Self – awareness means looking objectively at your
values, personality, needs, habits, emotions,
strengths, weakness, etc.

• With a sense of who you are and a vision of the
person you want to become, a plan for professional or
personal development can be created.

• Moreover, self – awareness allows you to motivate
yourself and manage your stress better, helps you
with your intuitive decision making, and helps you to
lead and motivate others more effectively.
SELF – ESTEEM
• The overall evaluation of oneself.
• How we evaluate ourselves is a crucial element in
our psychological adjustment.
• Positive self – esteem effects our physical well –
being as well as likelihood for success.

SELF - ESTEEM
STOP COMPARING
• Stop comparing yourself with other people. There
will always be some who have less. If you play the
comparison game, you’ll run into too many
“opponents“ you can’t defeat.

STOP PUTTING YOURSELF DOWN
• You can’t develop high self – esteem if you repeat
negative phrases about yourself and your abilities.
Whether speaking about your appearances, your
career, your relationships, your financial situation, or
any other aspects of your life, avoid self – deprecating
comments.
USE AFFIRMATION TO ENHANCE SELF - ESTEEM
• Write out a statement such as “I like and accept
myself” or “I am valuable, lovable person and
deserve the best in life”. Carry the card with you.

• Repeat the statement several times during the day,
especially at night before going to bed and after
getting up in the morning.

• Whenever you say the affirmation, allow yourself to
experience positive feelings about your statement.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WORKSHOPS, BOOKS AND
PROGRAMS ON SELF – ESTEEM
• What ever material you allow to dominate mind will
eventually take root and affect your behavior.
• If you watch negative television programs or read
newspaper reports of murders and business rip off;
you will grow cynical and pessimistic.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WORKSHOPS, BOOKS AND
PROGRAMS ON SELF – ESTEEM
• Similarly , if you read books or listen to programs,
that are positive in nature, you will take on these
characteristics.
ASSOCIATE WITH POSITIVE, SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE
• When you surrounded by negative people who
constantly put you and your ideas down, your self –
esteem’s lowered.
• On the other hand, when you are accepted and
encouraged, you feel better about yourself in the best
possible environment to raise your self – esteem.
MAKE A LIST OF YOUR PAST SUCCESSES
• This doesn’t really necessarily to have to consist of
monumental accomplishments.
• It can include your “ minor victories “ like learning
to skate… receiving an award or promotion, reaching
a business goal, etc.
