Lesson 2: SPORTS

“From ancient civilizations to modern times, SPORTS have always


important
been anpart of human culture, providing a means of physical activity,
entertainment
and social interaction.

There are approximately more than a thousand sports that have


been invented, ranging from the most-played and most popular ones such
as soccer, basketball, and badminton to some unusual ones like quidditch,
cheese rolling, and chess boxing.

People who play sports professionally are called “athletes”. They often
train extensively, compete at high levels, and may earn a living through their
sports performance, endorsements, and sponsorships.

Playing sports offers numerous benefits:


+ Physically, it can decrease the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, and
diabetes. We can also keep in shape and stay healthy by playing sports.
+ Additionally, it leads to better sleep, stress relief, and better mental
health.
+ Lastly, social skills are also improved. This is because sports require
commitment, discipline, teamwork, and communication skills, which are
all valuable life skills.
