• Is defined as a machine that
can be programmed to
manipulate symbols.
Principals Characteristics
- It responds to a specific set of
instructions in a well defined manner.
- It can execute a prerecorded list of
instructions (a program)
- It can quickly store and retrieve large
amounts of data.

A small, single-
user computer
based on a
microprocessor

Laptop Computer

A laptop computer, sometimes called


a notebook computer by
manufacturers, is a battery- or AC-
powered personal computer
generally smaller than a briefcase
that can easily be transported and
conveniently used in temporary
spaces such as on airplanes, in
libraries, temporary offices, and at
meetings.
Netbook Computer
A netbook is a device that can
perform the majority of the
functions of a desktop or
laptop, but is extremely mobile.
Netbooks look like miniature
laptops, with screens rarely
exceeding 10 or 12 inches.
Hand-held computers
A handheld computer is a computer
that can conveniently be stored in a
pocket (of sufficient size) and used
while you're holding it. Today's
handheld computers, which are also
called personal digital assistants
(PDAs), can be divided into those
that accept handwriting as input and
those with small keyboards.
B. Workstation computer

A powerful, single-
user computer, it
has more powerful
microprocessor.
C. Minicomputer
• A multi-user
computer capable
of supporting up to
hundreds of users
simultaneously.
D. Mainframe
• A powerful multi-user
computer capable of
supporting many
hundreds or thousands
of users
simultaneously.
E. Supercomputer
• An extremely fast
computer that can
perform hundreds of
millions of
instructions per
second.
