What is Road Safety?
Road safety refers to the methods and
measures used to prevent road users
from being killed or seriously injured.
Typical road users include pedestrians,
cyclists, motorists, vehicle passengers,
and passengers of on-road public
transport.
DO YOU KNOW ?
In the Philippines, road traffic deaths are increasing.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
indicate that road traffic deaths increased by 39%
from 7,938 deaths in 2011 to 11,096 deaths in 2021.
Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death
among Filipinos 15-29 years old, and a major killer
among children. In 2020, the number of deaths
dropped to 8,746 deaths, and this is likely due to the
reduced mobility of the population during that year
because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the
number of deaths again increased to 11,096,
coinciding with the end of lockdowns and mobility

ROAD SIGN SAFETY
Traffic signs and road markings are silent
speakers to the road users. Every road
user should know the marking and signs
on the road and the meaning.
Traffic signs are necessary to give
information for routes, directions, and
warnings for drivers. These should be
clear to convey the intended message for
road users to understand. Drivers tend to
ignore the road signs while authorities
ROAD TRAFFIC SIGN
Road signs are classified
under three (3) categories
1.Regulatory Signs
2.Warning Signs
3.Informative Signs
Regulatory
Signs
A regulatory sign is used to indicate or
reinforce traffic laws, regulations or
requirements which apply either at all times
or at specified times or places upon a street
or highway, the disregard of which may
constitute a violation, or a sign in general
that regulates public behavior in places open
to the public.
Warning
Signs
A warning sign is a type of sign which
indicates a potential hazard, obstacle, or
condition requiring special attention. Some
are traffic signs that indicate hazards on
roads that may not be readily apparent to a
driver.
Informative
Signs
These road signs indicate the destination
ahead or after a certain turn or exit.
Alternatively, these indicators can advise
drivers where they are now and where they
might be going if they continue in this path.
This sign is usually seen when the next stop
is a major one, such as a gas station or a
tourist attraction.
