• Minecraft is excited to team up again with Code.org with a new Minecraft
Hour of Code for 2020: A Minecraft Tale of Two Villages. In this new Hour
of Code, students will be in a world where there are two villages. For
centuries, the Villagers and Illagers shared the same space but NEVER
interacted with each other. Now you can use the power of code to bring
the two villages together. Players will experience empathy and
compassion for their neighbors, learn cooperation and inclusion, and
embrace the diversity that makes us all uniquely special. This year’s
lesson is offered in both Blocks and Python.

What devices do I need and how many?
Hour of Code 2020’s tutorial can be run on devices with operating systems for PC,
iPad, Chromebook and Mac. Check the system requirements and supported platforms before you begin.
If your devices do not meet the system requirements, consider running a previous year’s Minecraft
Hour of Code lesson available at code.org/minecraft.
If you don’t have enough devices for each student, have students share in pairs or small groups.
If you only have one device, you can run the tutorial in front of the class along with your students.
What do I need to download?
Hour of Code 2020's tutorial takes place in Minecraft: Education Edition, so each device will need it
installed. Check the system requirements and supported platforms before you begin. Please leave
yourself enough time for the download, installation, and network configuration that may be required.
Do I need an internet connection to run the Hour of Code lesson?
Yes. An internet connection is required.
If you don’t have internet at your school or it’s slow, the Minecraft Adventurer tutorial has an offline
version.
Do I need other materials, like headphones?
Headphones are helpful when students are working individually. But if they aren’t available, you can play the videos in front of
the class so everyone can listen together.
Where can I hold the Hour of Code?
You can lead the event right in your classroom or in a computer lab. You can even do it as part of a school assembly, after school
event, or parents’ night open house. For virtual learning, the Minecraft: Education Edition Hour of Code can be done remotely.

Computers and computer-controlled technology already impact all our lives
every day. In the 21st century and beyond, this impact will only continue to
grow. Not everyone has to become a computer programmer, but computer
science literacy, no matter what job or career you choose, is essential.
Learning about computer science and coding helps young people see the
creative possibilities of technology and sets them up for increased economic
opportunity and mobility.
