What is LED?
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor light source. LEDs are used
as indicator lamps in many devices, and are increasingly used for lighting. Introduc
ed as a practical electronic component in 1962, early LEDs emitted low-intensity re
d light, but modern versions are available across the visible, ultraviolet and infrared
wavelengths, with very high brightness.
When a light-emitting diode is forward biased (switched on), electrons are able
to recombine with holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons.
This effect is called electroluminescence and the color of the light (corresponding t
o the energy of the photon) is determined by the energy gap of the semiconductor.
An LED is often small in area (less than 1 mm2), and integrated optical component
s may be used to shape its radiation pattern. LEDs present many advantages over
incandescent light sources including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, im
proved robustness, smaller size, faster switching, and greater durability and reliabil
ity. LEDs powerful enough for room lighting are relatively expensive and require m
ore precise current and heat management than compact fluorescent lamp sources
of comparable output.
Light-emitting diodes are used in applications as diverse as replacements for a
viation lighting, automotive lighting (particularly brake lamps, turn signals and indic
ators) as well as in traffic signals. The compact size, the possibility of narrow band
width, switching speed, and extreme reliability of LEDs has allowed new text and vi
deo displays and sensors to be developed, while their high switching rates are also
useful in advanced communications technology. Infrared LEDs are also used in the
remote control units of many commercial products including televisions, DVD playe
rs, and other domestic appliances.

Some Key numbers to know !!
• 3.5 billion incandescent lamps installed throughout
Europe
• Incandescent waste most of their energy (95 per cen
t) on heat
• 1.5 billion tons of CO2 emissions a year in EU, it’s th
e equivalent of more than 22.5 millions cars on the r
oads
• Reducing 50% of bulb consumption is equivalent to
planting 10 million acres of trees

Green policy from countries…
• Top 3 environmental policy of European Union:

-- WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ), 2002 / Aug.

-- RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive ), 2002 / Jul.
-- EuP (Energy-using Product Directive ), 2005 / Aug.

• Australia -- the law forbids using incandescent light after year 2010

• Italy -- Voted by Green MP Angello Bonelli. The ban will take place from 2010

• France -- announce to ban the sale of incandescent by 2010

• U.K. -- Starting from 2009, the incandescent will be banned entirely after 2012

• EU -- All incandescent bulbs will be banned by 2012

• China -- will entirely forbid using incandescent light within 10 years

• Korea -- LED will replace incandescent light within 8 years

• Taiwan -- will entirely eliminate incandescent light after year 2009

Business Model
Due to the cost, the price of LED tubes are higher than that of
conventional fluorescent and energy-saving lamps. However,
besides all the advantages of LED, many do not have the ability to
possess them because of the high prices. We want to promote
the usage of LED tubes and make it universal, therefore, in
addition to selling, we can also provide a leasing program.

• Selling (One-time payment)

If you choose this approach, you can get the
preferential price of the LED tube.
• Leasing
You will need to get the bank to help pay in
installments. The basis of this concept is to use the
money saved from energy costs to pay the
installment payment per month (per period). The
duration of installation payment is usually 2 to 3 20
years.
