What is a monitor?
-is an electronic device that transmits information
from the computer onto a screen, thereby acting as
an interface and connecting the viewer with the
computer.

A monitor has two connectors:
• One connects to the video port on the
PC; this connector is known as a 15-pin

What is a keyboard?
- An input device used to enter information
into the computer.

Keyboard connectors can be one of three
types:
1.A small round connector called PS/2
that has six pins inside, color-coded
purple.
2.A larger connector called DIN-5
(obsolete)
3.USB connector: this is a small, flat
rectangular connector

What is a mouse?
- A mouse is the device that adds a
second dimension to input. It allows the
user to move the cursor or pointer across
the screen and used in selecting and
dragging object.

What is a printer?
• An output device that produces a hard
copy on paper. It gives information to
the user in printed form.

- Device that takes text or artwork that
exists on a paper and turn it into a file

What is a microphone?
• Allows the user to record sounds as

What is a MODEM?
• A device that is plugged into
the phone line, allowing the
user to dial out and make a
connection to another device.

SPEED:
Very low – 9.6 kbps
to the much faster -56 kbps

CONNECTION:
External modem traditionally connected to
a COM port. This allowed modem
connections up to 56 kbps. Nowadays it is
connected to the serial port of the
computer by means of a cable. It is
connected to the telephone wall jack by
another cable.
