Common features of effective online shopping sites
include:
1. Catalogue to reach for information about products and
services.
2. Checkout section where secure payment for items to
be purchased can be made.
3. A customer service page where merchant can be
contacted for assistance.
 The extensive use of corporate networks in the form of
intranet and extranet has made possible the safe and
secure delivery/shipments of a number of
pharmaceutical products with the help of online order
and supply through the Internet online superstores.
Corporate Network and its Role
 A group of computers interconnected in a building or particular
area which is entirely owned by the same company or institution
is called corporate network.
 The vital role of a corporate network in any company such as
pharmaceutical is evident from:
1. Business in the online world use several means to
electronically handle transactions.
2. Companies have their own networks which may link these
companies together to share certain resources and exchange
certain types of data.
3. For example, in a Drug Design situation, the acquires and the
designer can collaborate on design to make changes to shared
documents, update schedules, conduct online meetings and
transmit drug composition models and invoices to each other.
Role of Corporate Network (contd)
In case some companies do business with
many other companies for which flexible
enough systems are needed to handle an
ever-changing combination of partners and
customers.
A corporate network is created which looks
and functions like Internet in order to provide
access to authorize external users through
Internet. These specific business networks
are called Intranets and Extranets.
Types of Corporate Networks
The two primary types of Corporate Networks are
Intranets and Extranets so that:
1. Intranet is a corporate network which uses the same
protocol as the Internet but which belongs to a
corporation, school or organization in the sense that
Intranet is accessible to organization workers. If the
intranet is connected to the Internet then it is secured
through special device called firewall to prevent
unauthorized external users from gaining access to the
Intranet.
2. An intranet that can be remotely accessed by authorized
outside users over the Internet via user login to the
network with the help of user name and password, is
called extranet.
Popularity of Intranet and Extranet
1. Intranet and extranet use the same set of
communication rules called protocols as
Internet therefore these are simpler and
less expensive to install than many other
kinds of networks.
2. Web browsers such as Google Chrome used
for Intranet and Extranet have consistent
and friendly interfaces for users.
3. Intranet and Extranet provide excellent
security against unauthorized access in the
sense that they function well with standard
security technologies.
