The study of man’s interaction
with his environment.

The study of man’s behaviour
individually.
Sociology
The study of human behaviour in
groups
Economics
The study of man’s production,
consumption, and distribution of
goods and services.
History
The study of man’s past and past
events.
Demography
The study of statistics such as
births, deaths, income or the
incidence of disease which will
illustrate the changing structure
of human populations,
What is social science?
It is defined as the study of human
society
It is concerned with the systematic
study of social phenomena.
It is a branch of science that deals
with the institution and functioning
of human society and with the
interpersonal relationships of
individuals as members of society
Itunderstand and explain human
activity in the context of social
relations, social groups and
institutions.
The goal of social science
 Is to provide an answers to
many different questions and
problems encountered within the
society and to explain human
condition.
It provides vital information to
governments and policymakers, local
authorities, NGOs and others. It
create better institutions and systems
that affects people’s live every day.
It help people understand how to
interact with the social world, how to
influence policy, develops networks,
increase government accountability
and promote democracy.
Applied Social Science
Are those academic social
science disciplines, professions
and occupations which seek to
use basic social science
knowledge to make an impact on
the daily life of communities,
organizations and persons.
It is the application of existing
scientific knowledge to practical
applications like technology or
inventions.
Is the application of social
science theories, concept,
methods and findings to
problems identified in the wider
society ( D. Jary & J. Jary)
Also known as practical science
that apply scientific knowledge
from basic sciences in a physical
environment. ( example
medicines)
It focus in advancing scientific
theories and laws that explain
and predict events in the natural
world.
Basic and applied social science
are required for human society
development of which applied
social sciences cannot stand in
their own as it relies on basic
sciences for their progress
Applied science are important
because it enable science to be
more applicable in the real life.
Without applied social science,
scientific discoveries may only
remain to be in knowledge
without in use or underutilized.
