ADMIE

 To address Mr. Robertson's case using the Nutrition Care Process

(NCP) framework, particularly focusing on Type 2 Diabetes (DM),
we will follow the steps of Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention,
Monitoring and Evaluation (ADMIE).
Assessment
Nutrition Assessment
Anthropometric Data

 Weight: 90 kg
 Height: 175 cm
 Calculate BMI: BMI = weight (kg) / (height (m))^2
 BMI = 90 / (1.75 * 1.75) = 29.4 kg/m² (Classified as overweight)
 Biochemical Data (if available):
Consider fasting blood glucose levels, HbA1c (if diagnosed with diabetes), lipid profile.
 Dietary Assessment:
 Evaluate Mr. Robertson's dietary intake:
 High in occasional foods (likely high in refined sugars and fats)
 Exceeds recommended daily energy intake (caloric excess contributes to weight
gain)
Clinical Assessment

 Presence of Type 2 Diabetes:

 Family history of Type 2 Diabetes suggests predisposition.
 Need to confirm diagnosis with laboratory tests (e.g., fasting
blood glucose, HbA1c).

 Social History:
 Sedentary lifestyle since retirement.
Medical History

 High blood pressure (hypertension).

 Recent weight gain.
 Diagnosis
Nutrition Diagnosis

 Excessive nutrient intake related to high-calorie diet, evidenced

by weight gain.
 Risk of ineffective health management related to sedentary
lifestyle and excess calorie consumption.
 Potential for uncontrolled blood glucose levels (if diabetes is
confirmed).
Intervention
Nutrition Intervention

 Goal: Achieve and maintain optimal weight and blood glucose levels.
 Strategies:
 Caloric Restriction:
Develop a meal plan that reduces total daily caloric intake to promote weight loss (if
appropriate).
 Carbohydrate Control:
Emphasize complex carbohydrates over simple sugars to help manage blood glucose levels.
 Meal Distribution:
Encourage balanced meals and snacks throughout the day to prevent excessive caloric intake
and promote better glucose control.
 Physical Activity:
Recommend gradually increasing physical activity to combat sedentary behavior and promote
weight loss and glycemic control.
 Education:
 Provide education on meal planning, portion control, label reading, and
the importance of regular physical activity.
 Monitoring and Evaluation
 Monitoring:

 Regular follow-up to monitor weight, blood glucose levels (if diabetic),

blood pressure, and dietary adherence.
 Adjust interventions based on progress and changes in clinical
parameters.
Evaluation

 Assess effectiveness of interventions:

 Weight loss progress.
 Improved blood glucose and lipid profiles.
 Increased physical activity levels.
 Reassess nutrition diagnosis and modify interventions as needed
Summary

 This NCP approach for Mr. Robertson aims to address his weight
management and potential Type 2 Diabetes management through
tailored nutrition interventions and continuous monitoring to achieve
optimal health outcomes.
