AI IN

HEALTHCARE
Group 2
Introduction
 Artificial intelligence in healthcare is an overarching term used to
describe the use of machine-learning algorithms and software, or
artificial intelligence (AI), to mimic human cognition in the analysis,
presentation, and comprehension of complex medical and health care
data. Specifically, AI is the ability of computer algorithms to
approximate conclusions based solely on input data.

 AI technology in health care is the ability to gather data,

process it and give a well-defined output to the end-user. AI
does this through machine learning algorithms and deep
learning. These algorithms can recognize patterns in behaviour
and create their own logic.
How does AI help us

AI puts consumers in control of health and

well-being. Additionally, AI increases the
ability for healthcare professionals to
better understand the day-to-day patterns
and needs of the people they care for, and
with that understanding they are able to
provide better feedback, guidance and
support for staying healthy.
What is the use of AI in
healthcare
• The primary aim of health-related AI applications is to
analyze relationships between prevention or
treatment techniques and patient outcomes.

• AI programs are applied to practices such as diagnosis

processes, treatment protocol development, drug
development, personalized medicine, and patient
monitoring and care.

• AI algorithms can also be used to analyze large

amounts of data through electronic health records for
disease prevention and diagnosis.
Companies using AI in Healthcare

Oncora Medical Google

IBM Watson DeepMind
GOOGLE DEEP MIND
• Purpose of the AI System used-
*Detecting acute kidney injury
* Predicting patient deterioration in military
veterans.
*Identifying eye diseases
*Treating head and neck cancers
Working of the AI System
* Deep Mind claims that its systems are not
pre-programmed.
* It learns from experience and its skills evolve with it.
* In 2007 Deep Mind releases Grid World , an open-
source test bed for evaluating whether an algorithm
learns to disable its kill switch or otherwise exhibits
certain undesirable behaviors.
IBM Watson

Artificial intelligence services from IBM can help us

drive smart reinvention of our workflows,
technology and entire organization to transform our
business into a Cognitive Enterprise.

 Their industry experts help us implement a data-

first strategy, take advantage of our real-time
information, augment with third-party sources and
integrate with advanced technologies, such as IoT,
cognitive automation and AI.
Oncora Medical
•Purpose of the AI System used –

• The PPCR is a consented registry for paediatric cancer

patients with the goal of enabling more rapid research into
the impact of advanced treatments such as proton therapy
on children suffering from cancer.

• Oncora Analytics, which is in use at other cancer centres

and systems across the US including MD Anderson and
North well Health, integrates data from disparate oncology
data sources and organizes that data to help doctors and
researchers search for new cures and enhance patient care.
Working of the AI System

Oncora’s software uses machine learning to create

personalized recommendations for current cancer patients
based on data from past ones. Health care facilities using
the company’s platform include New York’s Northwell
Health.

Their radiology team collaborated with Oncora data

scientists to mine 15 years’ worth of data on diagnosis,
treatment plans, outcomes and side effects from more
than 50,000 cancer records. Based on this data,
Oncora’s algorithm learned to suggest personalized
chemotherapy and radiation regimens.
