tells us who is doing
the verb
a noun or pronoun

action done by the
subject in a
sentence
Examples of Subjects and
Objects
● The boy kicks the ball.

• The teacher writes on the board.

It replaces the noun that is doing the action
in a sentence.
They are:
I, He, she, it, We, You and They.
It comes at the beginning of the sentence, before
the verb.
Ex: She is happy.
“She" is the subject pronoun, replacing the
noun "Sarah".

The **girl** is reading a **book**.
**She** is reading a book.
The **boy** is playing with his
**train**.
**He** is playing with his train.
The **cat** is chasing a **mouse**.
**It** is chasing a mouse.
replace the noun that receives the action

me, you, him, her, it, us, and them.
They are usually placed after the verb.
Ex: He gave the book to her.
"Her" is the object pronoun, replacing the noun
"Sarah" who is receiving the book.
