PERNICIOUS ANEMIA
a decrease in red blood cells that occurs when the body cannot properly absorb vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract. Vitamin B12 is necessary for the proper development of red blood cells.
VITAMIN B12
also called cobalamin, is a water soluble vitamin with a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood. It is one of the eight B vitamins. It is normally involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body.
INTRINSIC FACTOR
also known as gastric intrinsic factor (GIF) is a glycoprotein produced by the parietal cells of the stomach. It is necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12 later on in the terminal ileum.
MEGALOBLASTIC ANEMIA
megaloblastic anemia is a blood disorder in which there is anemia with larger-thannormal red blood cells.
