Service Entrance Conductor &
Service Equipment Calculations
for Dwelling Unit
Example 1 – One Family Dwelling
Feeder Calculation for Single Family Dwelling
Unit up to 150m² more than 6 circuits, 230V,
60hz, Single Phase Service
Given : 145m² (habitable area excluding
terrace, balcony & porches), 2 – Small
Appliance Circuit, 1 - Laundry Circuit, 1 –
8kW Electric Range, 3 – 1hp Room ACU, 2 –
2.5kW Shower Heater, 1 – Water Pump 1.5hp
Determine the Service Entrance Conductor &
Service Equipment
Solution :
a) General Lighting Load (GLL) :
= 145m² x 24 VA/m² = 3,480VA

b) Small Appliance Load (SA) :

= 2 x 1,500 = 3,000VA
C) Laundry Circuit = 1,500VA

SUB – TOTAL======== 7,980VA

Application of Demand Factors
See Table 2.20.3.3
1st 3000VA @ 100% D.F. = 3,000VA
Remainder @ 35% D.F.
(7,980 – 3,000) x 0.35 = 1,743VA
------------
TOTAL = 4,743VA
d) Other Loads
1 – 8kW Electric Range @ 80% D.F. = 6,400VA
See Table 2.20.3.16
3 – Room ACU 1hp 8A x 230 x 3 = 5,520VA
See Table Table 4.30.14.2
2 – Shower Heater @ 2.5kW each = 5,000VA
1 – Water Pump 1.5hp 10A x 230 = 2,300VA
See Table Table 4.30.14.2
SUB – TOTAL ======= 19,220VA
Total Net Computed Load
Net Total GLL, SA & Laundry = 4,743VA
Other Loads = 19,220VA
----------------
23,963 VA
Service Entrance Conductor(SEC) :
= [4,743+6,400+5,520+5,000+1.25(2300)]/230
= 106.68A
Alternate Method :
= [23,963 + 0.25(2300)] / 230
= 106.68A
Use THW Copper 38mm² (115A)
See Table 3.10.2.6(B)(16)
Service Equipment (SE) :
= [4,743+6,400+5,520+5,000+2.5(2,300)]/230
= 27,413 / 230
= 119.18 A
Alternate Method :
= [23,963 + 1.5(2,300)]/230
= 119.18 A
Use 100AT, 100AF, 2P, MCCB
Example 2 – One Family
Dwelling
Single Family Dwelling Unit, more than 150m²
Floor Area, 230V, 60Hz, Single Phase Service
Given : 250m² Floor Area, 6 – Room ACU
1.5hp, 4 – Small Appliance, 1 – Laundry Circuit,
2 – WMO @ 4kW each, 1 – Electric Range 8kW,
1 – 12kW Electric Range, 1 – MWO 1.5kW, 1 –
Clothes Dryer @ 5kW, 4 – Shower Heater @
2.5kW each, 1 – Water Pump 1.5hp
Determine the Service Entrance Conductor &
Service Equipment
Solution :
a) Room ACU Load :
6 - 1.5hp (FLC = 10A)
= 10 x 230 x 6 = 13,800VA
b) General Lighting Load (GLL) :
= 250m² x 24VA/m² = 6,000VA
c) Cooking Appliances Load :
2 – Wall Mounted Oven (WMO) @ 4kW each
4,000 x 2 = 8,000VA
1 – Electric Range @ 8kW = 8,000VA
-------------
16,000VA
Net Load : 16,000 x 55% D.F. = 8,800VA
See Table 2.20.3.16 (Column B)
1 – Microwave Oven (MWO) @1.5kW
= 1,500VA x 80% D.F. = 1,200VA
See Table 2.20.3.16 (Column A)
1 – Electric Range @ 12kW = 8,000VA
See Table 2.20.3.16 (Column C)
Total Net Cooking Appliances Load = 18,000VA
d) Other Loads :
4 – Small Appliance @ 1,500VA each = 6,000VA
1 – Laundry Circuit @ 1,500VA = 1,500VA
1 – Clothes Dryer @ 5kW = 5,000VA
4 – Shower Heater @2.5kW each =
10,000VA
1 – Water Pump @ 1.5hp (FLC = 10A)
= 10 X 230 (See Table 4.30.14.2) = 2,300VA
---------------
24,800VA
Apply Demand Factor See Section 2.20.3.23
= 24,800 x 0.40 ======= 9,920VA
Total Net Computed Load
= ACU load + GLL + Net Cooking Load + Net
Other Loads
= 13,800 + 6,000 + 18,000 + 9,920
= 47,720 VA
Service Entrance Conductor(SEC)
SEC = [1.25(2300) + 11,500 + 6,000 + 18,000 +
9,920] / 230 = 209.98A
Alternate Method :
SEC = [47,720 + .25(2300)]/230 = 209.98A
Use 100mm² THW Copper (220A)
Service Equipment (SE) :
SE = [2.50(2300) + 11,500 + 6,000 + 18,000
+ 9,920] / 230 = 222.48A
Alternate Method :
SE = [47,720 + 1.50(2300)]/230 = 222.48A
Use 200AT, 225AF, 2P, MCCB
Example 3 – One Family
