INPUTS
An input is any data that is entered into a
computer system. This is usually entered
by a human user for example typing in
letters on a keyboard. Sensors can
automatically input data without human
involvement.
PROCESS
The processing is the computer deciding what to
do with the inputs. This is based on how the
computer has been coded. For example when we
press our thumb on the fingerprint sensor at school
the computer system scans our thumbprint and
processes it and compares it to the thumbprints
stored in our database. If the thumbprint matches
the door will open, if it doesn’t it won’t.
OUTPUTS
Outputs allow the user to see, hear or even
feel what the computer has processed and
produced. For example in a driving game
you would see the output of graphics, the
output of engine sounds and the output of
vibrations from the control pad or steering
wheel.
STORAGE
Storage allows the user to save files and to
install software on to so that they can be
used later. For example, your hard drive
may contain word processor software and
you can load up an existing document to
edit on that software that you have saved.
TASKS
1. Create a new Input, Process, Output diagram but with a new set of inputs,
processes and outputs (remember the storage too).
2. Give an example of an input device on a machine that you have used at
home that is connected to a computer system (Explain what you did with
that device). Tip - This doesn’t have to be a traditional desktop computer
e.g. A Microwave.
3. Describe as many of the outputs of that machine as possible.
4. Add a few pictures to each of the information slides to make them look
better.
