Guideline
 OFAT & DOE

 DOE steps

 single-factorial experimental design

 full factorial experimental design

• 7 steps of DOE process
• Minitab operation steps
• analysis and suggestion

 Partial factorial experimental design

OFAT & DOE
OFAT(one factor at a time):
• Chose one factor and vary the level at one
time.

DOE(design of experiment):
• Vary multiple factors in one time

SRAM.COM
DOE noun definition
Factor :
the elements which effect the result of experiment.
ex: time, temperature, pressure

Level:
levels are all the values that the factor can take.
ex: for temperature, the level could be 200°C 、 300°C 、 400°C

Interaction:
an interaction is a term in a statistical model in which the effect of two, or
more, variables is not simply additive.

7 steps of DOE
process
1. Problem comprehension and statement

2. Selection of Response (Y)

3. Selection of factors, levels to define

scope

4. Selection of DOE type

5. Experiment implement and data

collection

6. Statistical analysis of data

7. Conclusion and suggestion

Exampl
Engineer want to e
stabilize the filling height in a
soda vessel.

 He found three factors: carbonation%( 碳酸化 %) 、

operation pressure( 操作壓力 ) and line speed ( 產線速
度)

 In order to get confident result, he plan to run

each combination 2 times.

 levels for each factor:

 carbonation%: 10% 、 12% 、 14%
 operation pressure: 25 、 30 psi
 line speed: 200 、 250 bpm

SRAM.COM
1. Problem comprehension and statement

How to find a combination at which filling height is closest to

target height?

2. Selection of Response (Y)

The deviation to target height

3. Selection of factors, levels to define

scope

operation
Carbonation% Line speed
Factor pressure

Level 1 10% 25 200

Level 2 12% 30 250
Level 3 14%

Residuals
The difference between a measured value and its corresponding
theoretical value.

7. Conclusion and suggestion

%SS (contribution % of factors)

Conclusion 1: Carbonation% is the most important factor effect filling

height, It need to pay more attention to monitor or control it.

SRAM.COM
7-2. Conclusion and suggestion- To find the best
solution

SRAM.COM
Conclusion 2:
The best combination is:

Carbonation: 12 %
Operation pressure: 25 psi
Line speed: 200 bpm
