A GENIUS IS BORN
Born on June 19, 1861 at Calamba, Laguna. He was the seventh of the eleven children of Francisco Mercado Rizal and Teodora Alonso Realonda. Three days after his birth, he was baptized by Father Rufino Collantes at Catholic Church of Calamba. His Ninong was Father Pedro Casaas.
Francisco Mercado Rizal May 11, 1818 Jan. 5 1898. On May 28, 1848 married Teodora. Nagtapos sa Kolehiyo ng San Jose sa Maynila.

1.Saturnina (1850-1913) eldest of the Rizal children, with Neneng as pet name; she married Manuel T. Hidalgo of Tanawan, Batangas.
2. Paciano (1851-1930) older brother of Jose Rizal who later joined the Revolution against Spain and became a general; died as a bachelor.
3. Narcisa(1852-1939) Sisa, she married Antonio Lopez, a school teacher of Morong Rizal.

11. Soledad (1870-1929) Choleng, youngest of the Rizal children. She married Pantaleon Quintero of Calamba.
Isang katangi-tanging bahay na bato sa kalamba noong Panahon ng Espanyol. May dalawa itong palapag, parihaba ang hugis, gawa sa batong adobe at matigas na kahoy, at may bubong na pulang tisa.
Ang Buhay ng Mga Rizal Payak ngunit masaya ang buhaypamilya ng mga Rizal Bagaman mahal na mahal ng mga magulang ay hindi sila pinalaki sa luho. Tinuruan ang mga anak na magmahal sa Diyos, kumilosnang ayon sa kagandahang asal, maging masunurin, at maging magalang sa lahat, lalo na sa nakatatanda sa kanila.
Araw-araw ay nakikinig ng misa ang mga Rizal (mga magulang at anak) sa simbahan ng kanilang bayan, lalo na kapag Linggo at pista opisyal. Masaya silang naglalaro sa azotea at hardin at sa mga kalapit na bahay.
At night when the moon was bright, he loved to go to the azotea to watch the beautiful moon and to feel the cool breeze coming from Laguna de Bay. He listened to the fairy tales and legends narrated by his aya. Rizals first sorrow was caused by the death of his younger sister, Concepcion, in 1865. Rizal was a devout Catholic. H e often went to church and hear the Mass and pray the novenas.
When Rizal grew older, his father gave him a horse. He learned how to ride. Like any teenage boy, he loved horse riding. He also enjoyed wandering on foot in the fields and along the shore of Laguna de Bay. In all his wanderings, either on horseback or on foot, he was accompanied by his dog.
First visit to Antipolo and Manila On June 6, 1868, his first pilgrimage to the famous shrine of the Virgin of Antipolo. With what joy I saw the sun rise; for the first time I saw the luminous rays shone, producing a brilliant effect on the ruffled surface of the wide lake.
Rizals First Teacher - His first teacher was his mother. - She was affectionate and patient but strict. - He learned alphabet and the prayers when he was only 3 yrs.old. - My mother taught me how to read and to say haltingly the humble prayers which I raised fervently to God... Surely, a man owes everything to his mother, next to God.

19 June 1861 JOSE RIZAL, the seventh child of Francisco Mercado Rizal and Teodora Alonso y Quintos, was born in Calamba, Laguna. 22 June 1861 He was baptized JOSE RIZAL MERCADO at the Catholic of Calamba by the parish priest Rev. Rufino Collantes with Rev. Pedro Casaas as the sponsor. 28 September 1862 The parochial church of Calamba and the canonical books, including the book in which Rizals baptismal records were entered, were burned. 1864 Barely three years old, Rizal learned the alphabet from his mother. 1865 When he was four years old, his sister Conception, the eight child in the Rizal family, died at the age of three. It was on this occasion that Rizal remembered having shed real tears for the first time.
1865 1867 During this time his mother taught him how to read and write. His father hired a classmate by the name of Leon Monroy who, for five months until his (Monroy) death, taught Rizal the rudiments of Latin. At about this time two of his mothers cousin frequented Calamba. Uncle Manuel Alberto, seeing Rizal frail in body, concerned himself with the physical development of his young nephew and taught the latter love for the open air and developed in him a great admiration for the beauty of nature, while Uncle Gregorio, a scholar, instilled into the mind of the boy love for education. He advised Rizal: "Work hard and perform every task very carefully; learn to be swift as well as thorough; be independent in thinking and make visual pictures of everything." 6 June 1868 With his father, Rizal made a pilgrimage to Antipolo to fulfill the vow made by his mother to take the child to the Shrine of the Virgin of Antipolo should she and her child survive the ordeal of delivery which nearly caused his mothers life. 1869 At the age of eight, Rizal wrote his first poem entitled "Sa Aking Mga Kabata." The poem was written in tagalog and had for its theme "Love of Ones Language." His brother Paciano brought Rizal to Bian, Laguna. He was placed under the tutelage of Justiniano Aquino Cruz, studying Latin and Spanish. In this town he also learned the art of painting under the tutorship of an old painter by the name of Juancho Carrera. 17 December 1870 Having finished his studies in Bian, Rizal returned to Calamba on board the motorboat Talim. His parents planned to transfer him to Manila where he could continue his studies
As to his father's request, he took the entrance examination inColegio de San Juan de Letran. The Dominican Friars asked him to transfer to another school due to his radical and bold questions. He then enrolled at theAteneo Municipal de Manilaand graduated as one of the nine students in his class declaredsobresalienteor outstanding.
