• Aero Shake: You can use the shake
feature to quickly minimize
unneeded open windows. Allowing
you to focus on one window at a
time.[Click on the title bar of a
window and shake your mouse.]
• Snap: You can snap open windows
to the side of your monitor, allowing
you to easily compare windows side-
by-side. 9

• Improved Taskbar: The Taskbar has
been revamped for faster access to
programs and features on your computer.
• Jump Lists: A list of recently used files,
folders, or websites. Jump Lists can be
viewed either in the Start Menu or the
Task Bar. The Jump List allows for easy
and quick access to recently opened
items.
• Library: Libraries are very similar to
folders except they allow you to view files

and folders from multiple locations.

• Search: Improved search filters and
features have been added.
• Gadgets: Gadgets can now move
freely on the desktop.

Check Windows Version
• Check Windows Version
• Windows Version tells the exact Build of
OS and service Pack you are using. You
can simply check it by using Winver
Command. Open Run Dialog box by
using Win+R and type “Winver” there
without quotes. This will bring a
Windows which has OS details such as
Windows details.
• Alternatively you can also use the
Command prompt to find the information.

Disable Wallpaper Change in
Windows 7
• Organization wallpaper on their computer which is fixed
and cannot be changed by any other user on that
computer.
1. Open Run Dialogue Box (Win + R) and type gpedit.msc
2. Navigate to Local Computer policy > User
Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop
in left hand side /RHS pane.
3. Select Desktop Wallpaper from right side pane.
4. Open it and enable it.
5. To use this setting, type the fully qualified path and name
of the file that stores the wallpaper image. You can type a
local path, such as C:\Windows\web\wallpaper\home.jpg.
Also this setting specifies that the wallpaper image be
centered, tiled, or stretched.

1. Open Registry Editor (Go to Start Run type
Regedit & press enter)

LegalNoticeCaption and enter a value that
you want to see in the Menu Bar.

1. Open elevated command prompt by
typing "cmd" in your start menu
& opening it with administrator
privileges.
2. Type “powercfg –energy” into
the command prompt & press
Enter.
The command enables tracing for 60
seconds & would collect all the data
after observing the system behavior.

in the directory shown in the command prompt.

How to Remove “Folder opens
in New Window” Problem
1. Reset the folder options view
Organize > Folder & search Options > General > Browse
Folders > Select “Open each folder in same windows”
2. Organize > Folder & search Options > View >
uncheck Launch folder windows in a new
process.
3. Open Registry editor by typing “regedit” in Run dialog box and
hit enter. Navigate to the key “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\
shell”. On the right hand side pane there is a value named
“Default” double-click on this value & Set the value to “none“.
Once you make this change, your folders should instantly be back
to normal. You must start explorer (Restart/Logoff) for changes to
take effect.
4. Get your Antivirus updated and thoroughly scan your computer as
Virus may create an Autorun.inf file in each folder which may 30

Disk Clean up
• Disk Cleanup scans your computer for
files that can be deleted from your
system.
• Why use this?
• This program allows you to delete your
garbage and old internet files. Garbage
can consist of items such as temporary
installation files or leftover files from
uninstalled programs. As these files
accumulate on your computer it will
eventually cause your computer’s

performance to slow.

Connection
To configure remote access, follow
these steps:
1. In Control Panel, click System And
Security, and then click System.
2. On the System page, click Remote
Settings in the left pane.

installing fresh copy of
Windows.
1. Login as Administrator of your PC.
2. Click Start –> right-click on
“Computer” and choose “Manage”.
3. In the left pane of “Computer
Management” window, click on
“Disk Management” in “Storage”
tree.
4. Click on the partition and then
right-click on it and click “Shrink
Volume”. 41

5. In the following dialog box, key in size of new
partition you need in “Enter the amount of space
to shrink in MB” field. In our example, we key in
“15000” since we need around 15GB of partition.
Windows will shrink our existing 40GB hard disk
to around 25GB. This means at the end of this
process we will be having “C” drive with 25GB
and “E” (new partition) with 15GB space. Then
click “Shrink” button.

6. Windows 7 will resize the partition and you can


now see the resized partition and the new
partition. Note that the new partition is shown as

1. Using Windows Key shortcuts and Snap, you can
create a dual-pane file-manager simulation with
four simple keystrokes:

2. Need to jot down a quick note? Use the Sticky


Notes applet. Click the Start button, and type
sticky in the Start Search box. When you create a
note, Sticky Notes automatically saves the note

To increase the number of items in the Jump list,
right-click on the Start button, select the
Properties command, and click the Customize

detailed information about physical memory
usage. Press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Esc] and click the
Performance tab. The Total entry shows the
amount of RAM installed in the system. The
Cached entry indicates the amount of physical
memory used for system resources. The new
Available entry indicates the amount of physical
memory currently not being used. The Free entry
indicates the amount of memory in the cache
that does not contain useful information.

• Windows 7 is a fairly cool operating
system, but like most operating
systems it’s not perfect. Some

the search field.

3. DVD Drive Not Found
1. Click Start, search for ‘regedit‘ and launch it from
the > results. Navigate to ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class‘.
2. In the > right-hand panel delete > ‘UpperFilters‘ and
> ‘LowerFilters‘, restart Windows and see if the
problem was resolved.
IF NOT,
1) click Start, and type Disk Management, and
2) Select ‘Create and format hard disk partitions‘.
3) In the Disk Management window right-click on the
optical drive icon and select ‘Change Drive Letter
and Paths‘.
4) In the Change Drive Letter and Paths window click
the > Change… button and choose a new drive letter. 54
4. Driver Problems
• Use the built-in and free Driver
Verifier tool.
– Open by typing verifier.exe into the Run
box
– Ensure all programs are closed before
doing this as you will be asked to do a
restart once you lauch the Driver
Verifier.
• If the Driver verifier has identified particular
driver problems, then you can attempt to fix
these driver problems by reinstalling the drivers
