KINDS OF FUNCTION
Linear Function Quadratic

Rational Function Radical
Function
Polynomial Function Exponential
Function
Piecewise Function
Greatest Integer Function
THE GREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION

GREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION IS A

FUNCTION THAT GIVES THE GREATEST
INTEGER WHICH IS LESS THAN OR
EQUAL TO A GIVEN REAL NUMBER. IT IS
A FUNCTION THAT ROUNDS UP THE
NUMBER TO THE NEAREST INTEGER
LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO THE GIVEN
NUMBER.
THE GREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION

GREATEST INTEGER FUNCTION IS ALSO REFERRED

TO AS ‘STEP FUNCTION’.
IT IS DENOTED BY THE SYMBOL ⌊X⌋, WHERE X IS
ANY REAL FUNCTION.
DOMAIN AND RANGE OF GREATEST INTEGER
FUNCTION ARE ℝ AND ℤ RESPECTIVELY.

EXAMPLES: ⌊13.01⌋ = 13 , ⌊4.56567⌋ = 4, ⌊-6.13⌋

FUNCTION

THE EXPONETIAL FUNCTION
An exponential function is a
Mathematical function in the form
f (x) = , where “x” is a variable and
“a” is a constant which is called the
base of the function and it should be
greater than 0 but not equal to 1.

THE
9 POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION

A polynomial of degree n is a function of the form

where the a’s are real numbers (sometimes called the coefficients
of the polynomial).
