This document discusses brain-computer interfaces (BCI) which aim to create a direct channel between the human brain and computers. It describes how BCI systems work by detecting electrical signals in the brain produced during neural activity and transmitting that data to control external devices. The key principles of BCI are outlined, including the different approaches of invasive, semi-invasive and non-invasive models and the technologies used like EEG. Potential applications of BCI systems in medical, assistive and gaming fields are also mentioned.

Introduction
Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a fast-growing emergent technology, in which researchers aim to build a direct channel between the human brain and the computer. A Brain Computer Interface (BCI) is a collaboration in which a brain accepts and controls a mechanical device as a natural part of its representation of the body. Computer-brain interfaces are designed to transmit sensory information from the brain, or stimulate the brain through articially generated electrical signals.

Human Brain

BMI
A BMI is an attempt to mesh our minds with

machine.
These are electronic interfaces with the brain

which has ability to send & receive signals from brain.

By using BMI artificial electrical signal can

stimulate the brain tissue in order to transmit some information.

MAIN PRINCIPLE OF BMI

Main principle behind this interface is the bioelectrical activity of nerves

and muscles.
The brain is composed of millions of neurons. These neurons work together

in complex logic and produce thought and signal that control our bodies.
When the neuron fires or activates there is a voltage change across the cell,

which can be read through a variety of devices.

By monitoring or analyzing these signals, we can understand the working

of brain.

We can control the brain function by artificially producing these signals and

sending them to respective parts.

THE TECHNOLOGY USED IN BMI

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a technology used in measuring the electrical

activity of the brain.

The recording of EEG response is known as the electroencephalogram. The EEG signal can be picked up with electrode either from scalp or directly from the

cerebral cortex.
The EEG is measured from the surface of the scalp by measuring potential difference

between the actual measuring electrode and a reference electrode.

The normal EEG frequency content ranges from 0.5 to 50 Hz.

Advantages
In this era where drastic diseases are getting common , it is a boon if

we can develop it to its full potential.

It provides better living , more features, more advancement in

technologies.

Disadvantages
Getting the right codes out for the desired action . Extensive training required.

Applications
There are many areas of applications for brainwave detection devices:
Medical/clinical applications Assistive technology for people with disability i.e. to

control, for example, a wheelchair or a mouse Hands-free gaming.

CONCLUSION
Concept of BMI have been used for a large number of

applications in various fields. We can say as detection techniques and experimental designs improve, the BMI will improve as well and would provide wealth alternatives for individuals to interact with their environment.
