TOPIC: BASIC DRAWING TOOLS
In AutoCAD every time you create a
project, you always start with the draw
commands as the foundation of your
drawing.
As a beginner, this lesson will introduce
you the most commonly-used draw
commands.
Draw commands are used in creating
objects such as line, polyline, arcs, circle,
TOPIC: BASIC DRAWING TOOLS
Draw commands can be activated in a
numerous way.
Command names and shortcuts can be
entered in the command line using the
keyboard or by simply clicking on the
command icons at the draw toolbar
depending on your convenience.

DRAW COMMANDS
1. LINE
Used to create or draw
straight line segment.
• Command: LINE or L
(enter)
• Specify first point: (pick
P1)
• Specify next point: (pick
P2)
DRAW COMMANDS
2. POLYLINE
A polyline is a connected
series of segments created
as a single object or entity.
The Polyline command or
Pline or PL is similar to the
Line command.
POLYLINE
•Command: PLINE or PL [enter]
•Specify start point: (pick P1)
•Specify next point or: (pick P2)
•Specify next point or: (pick P3)
•Specify next point or: (pick P4)
•Specify next point or [Arc/Close/ Half
width/Length/Undo/Width]: (or C to
close)
DRAW COMMANDS
3. RECTANGLE
Rectangle command creates a
rectangular polyline whose
sides are vertical and
horizontal from the specified
rectangle parameters (length,
width, rotation) and the type
of corners (fillet, chamfer, or
square).
RECTANGLE
•Command: RECTANG or REC
[enter]
•Specify first corner point or
[Chamfer/ Elevation/ Fillet/
Thickness/ Width]: (pick P1)
•Specify other corner point or
[Dimensions]: (pick P2)
DRAW COMMANDS
4. POLYGON
The Polygon command creates
an equilateral closed polyline
from 3 sides up to 1024 sides.
It requires four inputs from
the user:
- the number of sides
-a pick point for the center of the
polygon,
4. POLYGON
- an option whether you want
the polygon inscribed or
circumscribed,
- and a pick point which
determines both the radius of
this imaginary circle and the
orientation of the polygon.
POLYGON
•Command: POLYGON or POL [enter]
•Enter number of sides <4>: type 6 for
hexagon or six-sided polygon
•Specify center of polygon or [Edge]:
(pick P1 for center of Polygon or
type E to define by edge length)
POLYGON
•Enter an option [Inscribed in circle/
Circumscribed about circle] <I>:
(To accept the inscribed default or
type C for circumscribed)
•Specify radius of circle: (pick P2 or
enter exact radius)
