- It is the process of observing what is going
on in your environment; identifying things
that could be change or improve; diagnosing
why the current state is the way it is and the
factors and forces that influence it;
developing approaches and alternatives to
influence change, making decisions about
which alternative to select; taking action to
implement the changes and observing
impact of those actions in the environment.

options by exploring both analytical and creative
approaches.

• Maximize your chance of finding an effective solution by


ensuring key stakeholders contribute.

• Research and plan problem solving exercises effectively to


manage the process smoothly.

EXAMPLE
 A fast food chains researchers need to determine if
there is a need for a new location of its store so they
survey people going through the drive-through line.

If you propose “ the problem in this community is that it


has no hospital”. This only leads to a research problem
where: the objective is to create a hospital.

•DEFINE THE PROBLEM
- In understanding and communicating the problem
effectively, we have to be clear about what the
issue is.

•CLARIFY THE PROBLEM


- Knowing how the problem came to attention, how
it has been framed the size of the problem and the
cause of the problem.

• GATHER THE INFORMATION
- It is the process of acquiring the knowledge/
education that is of concern, not the education
that ultimately has been gathered.

•GENERATE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS


- Work together to brainstorm on all possible
solutions. Do not judge whether the ideas are good
or bad at this point.

•EVALUATE IDEAS AND THEN CHOOSE ONE
- Decide which options you like and which you don’t like.
After weighing the pros and cons of each, choose an option
that you both feel comfortable with.

•EVALUATE THE RESULT


- Evaluate if it works or it failed.
