• Power Supply: is responsible for supplying power to all circuits in CPU
casing.
• Motherboard: is used to accommodate all parts to get fitted on it. e.g.
CPU, RAM, FANs, Buses, Ics, Transistors etc.
• CPU: Central Processing Unit does all the working of the computer. The
speed of CPU is calculated in Hertz (Hz), Mega Hertz (MHz) and Giga Hertz
(GHz)
• RAM: Random Access Memory, holds the programs temporarily on run
time only
• Card Slots: Exist motherboard and allow different components to be fitted
on computer. E.g. VGA card, NIC, MoDem etc.
Introduction to Computer 18
• Video Card: (Video Graphic Array)VGA is responsible to display better
quality images on screen
• Sound Card: is responsible for the output of sound from computer
• NIC: Network Interface card allows the computer to communicate
with other computers through wires
• Wireless Card: Allows the computer to communicate with other
computers wirelessly
• MoDem: Modulator & Demodulator; is used to connect to internet
using a telephone line by the process of dial up
