PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OR SELF-

DEVELOPMENT is a process of discovering oneself by


realizing one’s potentials and capabilities that are
shaped over time either by studying in a formal school
or through environmental factors.

“An examined life is not worth living, said Socrates.


“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all
wisdom.”, according to Aristotle.
Heads up! Let us start by defining some words
and concepts that we will encounter in this
lesson.
 Ideal Self - the self that you aspire to be
 Actual Self - the one that you actually
see
 Self Knowledge - provides insight into
how others react to you
Self -image how others view as to who
you are
Personal Effectiveness - making use of
all the personal resources - talents,
skills, energy and time , to enable you to
TASK 1: SELF-CONCEPT INVENTORY
Take a look at your own self-concept and answer the following self-concept
inventory in your journal. Give yourself a rating using the scale: 0 = very weak;
1 = weak; 2 = somewhat weak or somewhat strong; 3 = strong; 4 = very strong
