ROBOTICS

In Education
WELCOME!
Today we are going to learn all
about the importance of robotics
education and how it can be both
fun and beneficial.
WHAT IS ROBOTICS?
Robots are machines that can help
us with various tasks and make our
lives easier.

Robotics in education is all about

designing, building, and
programming.
WHY LEARN
ROBOTICS?
Engaging in robotics lessons is not
only exciting but also educational.

Let's find out some of the

educational benefits of robotics:
Problem Solving: Teamwork:
Robots require logical thinking Robotics often involves working
and problem-solving skills to in teams, teaching students to
program and troubleshoot them. collaborate and communicate
effectively.

Creativity: Technology Skills:

Building robots encourages Robotics education helps students
creativity by designing unique develop skills in programming,
structures and mechanisms. electronics, and mechanics.
REAL-WORLD
APPLICATIONS
Robotics can be used in various
fields, such as healthcare, space
exploration, and manufacturing. It
is used in many industries to
perform dangerous, repetitive, or
high precision tasks.
FUTURE CAREERS
Robotics is an exciting field with
numerous career opportunities
including robotics engineering, AI
research, or automation specialists.
Learning robotics now can prepare
you for these jobs in the future.
FUN ACTIVITIES &
COMPETITIONS
There are many fun activities and
competitions related to robotics,
such as robot races or sumo
challenges.
Participating in these events can be
enjoyable and a great way to apply
robotics skills.
RESOURCES &
TOOLS
There are many online platforms,
coding apps, and robotics kits
designed for beginners to learn the
basics of robotics.
OVERVIEW
Robotics education helps develop
problem-solving and critical
thinking skills. It enhances
creativity and teamwork abilities
and helps develop technological
knowledge to prepare students for
future careers.
The Advancement of
Robotics
People have been making machines that replicate human
abilities for centuries. These are the breakthroughs that got
robots to where they are today.
Evolution of Robots
Development of the first industrial robot by George Devol
and Joseph Engelberger
It weighed two tons and was controlled
by a program on a magnetic drum. They
used hydraulic actuators and were
programmed in joint coordinates, i.e. the
angles of the various joints were stored
during a teaching phase and replayed in
operation.

1959
Unimation installed the first industrial robot at GM
The world's first industrial was
robot used on a production line at
the GM Ternstedt plant in Trenton,
NJ, which made door and window
handles, gearshift knobs, light
fixtures and other hardware for
automotive interiors.

1961
The first cylindrical robot, the Versatran from AMF

1962 Versatran robots were installed by

American Machine and Foundry
(AMF) at the Ford factory in
Canton, USA. It was named the
Versatran from the words "versatile
transfer"
The first industrial robot in Europe

The first industrial robot

in Europe, a Unimate,
was installed at
Metallverken, Uppsland
Väsby, Sweden

1967
The octopus-like Tentacle Arm was developed by
Marvin Minsky

"This arm was developed by Marvin Minsky at MIT in

1968. Since it moved like an octopus, this early robot
arm was called the Tentacle Arm. It had twelve joints
and was designed to reach around obstacles. The arm
was controlled by a PDP-6 computer and was powered
by hydraulic fluids.
Trallfa, Norway, offers the first commercial painting robot

The robots were developed for

in-house use in 1967 to spray
paint wheelbarrows during a
Norwegian labor shortage.
GM installed the first spot-welding robots at its Lordstown
assembly plant

The Unimation robots boosted productivity

and allowed more than 90 percent of body
welding operations to be automated vs.
only 20 percent to 40 percent at traditional
plants, where welding was a manual, dirty
and dangerous task dominated by large jigs
and fixtures.

1969
ASIMO (2000)

ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative

Mobility) is a humanoid robot created by
Honda in 2000.Asimo is a humanoid robot
designed to be a helper to people. It can
run, dance, hop, and kick a soccer ball. It
travels the world as an ambassador to
robokind, making humans excited about
robotics.
Softbank introduces Pepper
2014
Pepper was jointly developed by the French company
Aldebaran Robotics SAS and the Japanese
telecommunications and media group SoftBank
Mobile Corp. It is the first humanoid social robot with
the ability to recognize faces and basic human
emotions through analysing facial expressions and
tone of voice. It is currently employed at various
shops, restaurants and other public spaces around the
world.
