CONTROL CHART

• A control chart, also known as a Shewhart

chart or process-behavior chart, is a
graphical tool used in statistical process
control (SPC) to monitor and analyze the
CONTROL variation in a process over time. It was
CHART developed by Walter A. Shewhart in the
early 20th century and is widely used in
manufacturing, quality control, and various
other industries to ensure that processes are
stable and within specified limits.
elements of a control chart include:

Central Line (CL)-This represents the mean or average of the data points and is
typically shown as a horizontal line in the middle of the chart.

Upper Control Limit (UCL) and Lower Control Limit (LCL)-These are horizontal lines
placed above and below the central line to define the control limits. The control
limits are often set at a certain multiple of the standard deviation from the mean.

Time axis-The horizontal axis of the chart represents time or the order in which the
data points were collected.
X-bar and R Charts:

X-bar (or X̄) Chart: Used for monitoring the R Chart: Used in conjunction with the X-bar chart
central tendency (mean or average) of a process to monitor the variation within subgroups of the
with continuous data. data.
