STEPS IN DOING THE FREQUENCY
DISTRIBUTION TABLE FOR MEASURES OF
POSITION
1. Find the Range ®
R = Highest Score – Lowest Score

POSITION
2. Compute for the number of intervals, n, by using
the formula:
n= 1+ 3.3 Log N
where :
n = number of class interval
N = total number of values or observations

3. Compute for the class size, i, using the formula

4. Using the lowest score as lower limits,
add (i-1) to obtain the higher limit
of the desired class interval

5. The lower limit of the 2nd interval maybe
obtained by adding the class size to the lower
limit of the first interval. Add ( i-1) to the
result to obtain the higher limit of the 2nd
interval.

6. Repeat step 5 to obtain the 3rd class
interval, and so on and so forth.

7. When the n class intervals are completed,
determine the frequency for each class interval
by counting the elements.

8. Cumulative Frequency are of two kinds.
*The less than cumulative frequency of a class is found
by adding the frequency of the class and the
frequencies of the lower classes.
(Add the lowest frequency up to the highest
frequency)
*The greater than cumulative frequency is found in the
same manner but in the reverse order

9. Class Boundaries are often described as the true
limits because these are more precise
expressions of class limits. The lower boundary
of a class interval is 0.5 less than its lower limit
and its upper boundary is 0.5 more than its upper
limit.
