NON-VERBAL
COMMUNICATION
Communicating without using any
spoken or written word.
Wordless messages
Takes place gestures, facial
expressions, eye contact and touching.
It also includes pitch, speed, tone and
volume of voice, dress and appearance
etc.
ADVANTAGES
Helps to communicate with someone
who is hard of hearing or deaf.
Helps to communicate in silent zones
Help us to communicate with a
distant person
Help us to communicate people who
don't understand our language.

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION
BREAKDOWN?
Communication breakdown may occur
when one element is absent or will not
function well and it becomes a barrier to
communication.
Ex. A worker who made a mistake on the
report because of unclear instructions
SOME BARRIERS THAT MAY CAUSE
BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION:
Physical Barriers – any noise or
sound from the environment
Psychological Barriers – mental
barriers; refer to social and
personal issues of a speaker
towards communicating with
others.
SOME BARRIERS THAT MAY CAUSE
BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION:
Cultural Barriers – which pertains
to communication problems
encountered by people regarding
their intrinsic values, beliefs, and
traditions in conflict with others.
SOME BARRIERS THAT MAY CAUSE
BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION:
Linguistic Barriers – are conflicts
with regard to language and word
meanings.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT:
1. It interrupts the flow of communication.
2. These disruptions refers to the attitude, emotion, mood,
knowledge and other mental state of participants.
3. These barriers are disruptions from the environment.
4. A couple had misunderstanding because of their
traditional beliefs, what kind of barrier is this?
5. Two parties with different dialect cannot communicate
effectively, what barrier it depicts?
