Lesson 1:

GOOD CITIZENSHIP
VALUES
• “A good Filipino citizen is one who plays
an active and intelligent role as a member
of the community. He is one who fulfills
his duties and obligations to the
government and society. He possesses the
traits of respectfulness, courtesy and
consideration for parents and elders and
for others. He observes punctuality,
promptness, and good moral conduct”---
(Coloma, T.M &Herrera, M.M).”
What is Values?
 It is the expression of the person’s
ultimate ends, goals or purpose of
social action.
 It serves as the basis for decision
making since human normally make
choices on the basis of what will
bring them happiness and
contentment both intrinsically and
extrinsically.
Personal versus Cultural
Perspective
 Personal Values – provide an internal reference
for what is good, beneficial, important, useful,
beautiful, desirable, and constructive. Values
are one of the factors that generate behavior and
influence the choices made by an individual.

Cultural Values
 Cultural Values – Values relate to
the norms of culture.
How do we develop our values?
 Values are shaped by various factor
that enter human experiences and
senses.
 Individuals are forced by
intrapersonal and extra personal
factors to pattern their behavior after
the generally accepted standards.
Stages of Values
development
1. You just inherit and accept the values and
beliefs that your parents gave you.
2. You research and investigate different value
and belief systems and select one you feel
makes more sense or agrees best with you.
3. You create your own scale of values and
your own belief system based on your
experiences throughout life. -( Grimaldo, A)

• Be happy and convinced of the merits of
choosing values.
