EMC has become aware that any Enginuity release two levels or more, below the designated "Target" level
are experiencing a higher than expected Data Unavailable/Data Loss (DU/DL) rate. This has the potential to
temporarily limit access to the information in the EMC storage system. EMC has incorporated fixes to these
problems in Enginuity 5875.231.172, and later versions of Enginuity. EMC highly recommends that all VMAX
systems running at the affected levels be upgraded to the recommended target level or later.
The table in the Primus lists some of the critical fixes that have been applied at (or are available in) Enginuity
5875.231.172.
For a more comprehensive list of Enginuity fixes, review the Enginuity Release notes on Powerlink (

Would like to move SFS volumes to a different drive type for performance reasons.
Migrating the SFS volume is supported with SymmWin Fix 20009444, released in Enginuity 5874.240.191
and 5875.135.91. A special SymmWin procedure can be used. Contact your local configuration specialist.
The following is a link to the SymmWin Migrate Procedure to move the SFS volume from one disk group/type
to another disk group/type.
The original batch of RSA seeds used to create SSC tokens have a 5-year life. There are approximately
9,500 Symmetrix devices with these 5-year tokens installed. They are scheduled to expire on January 31,
2012 at midnight.
FCO #F083011EO was issued August 3, 2011. The Remote Change Management (RCM) group along
with field service personnel have been able to update the new tokens with a 15-year life span either using
a manual process or using the RCM push. If all of the tokens on the Symmetrix have expired, the tokens
must be replaced on-site and cannot be done remotely. The tokens must be replaced before any of the
service tools can be utilized on the Symmetrix Service Processor. Some sites may see tokens expire
other than the EMC Default and Serial Token. If this is the case, these tokens can be re-installed
remotely. Support teams can use the serial token to login and run the fix described below. The field can
access SSC Credential Manager by logging on to the EMC network and going to this url:
https://slc.emc.com/psscm. If you cannot access the SSC Credential Manager, you must contact
the CSSEC_OPS team. (see Note below for contact details.) The CSSEC_OPs team can send the
updated tokens via email.
Before using any type of portable media, read solution emc272863: Symmetrix: How to scan your
portable USB device for viruses before using it on the Service Processor.

Field Service: To recover a Symmetrix VMAX system in the failed state, contact the Support Center for
escalation to Engineering. SymmWin Fix 20011289 has been written to prevent this issue. It is available
as an Enginuity Pack at 5875.231.172 and has been released in 5875.249.188.
EMC supports IBM's System Z High Performance FICON (zHPF) refer to emc217851 and to EMC263722 for
more information. Enginuity 5874 supports Single-Track zHPF only but with 5875 Enginuity we now also
support Multi-Track zHPF. When a Symmetrix VMAX running Enginuity 5874 performs a non disruptive
upgrade to Enginuity 5875 the Emulex firmware levels do not get upgraded. This can cause possible issues
with Multi-Track zHPF.
Field Service:
• If planning a 5874 to 5875 Enginuity upgrade and zHPF is enabled then a special build (epack) must be
loaded on top of the 5875 code level to prevent possible impact. The function of the fix is to automatically
disable Multi-Track if it does not find the correct (5875) Emulex firmware levels.
Note: The fix is currently in development with Engineering - Until the fix is available Mainframe systems
with zHPF enabled will be blocked from performing Enginuity 5874 to 5875 NDU's.
• If planning a 5874 to 5875 Enginuity upgrade and zHPF is NOT enabled then it is okay to perform the 5874
to 5875 Enginuity upgrade.
Important: Before enabling zHPF at Enginuity 5875, Emulex firmware versions should be checked using the
information in emc106106 and verified that levels are at the latest revision for the Enginuity level and board
type (8GB/4GB). If Emulex firmware levels are below the required revision then an Emulex upgrade should
be scheduled via Change Control.
