USING DESIGN THINKING
Design thinking involves solving problems by giving priority the
consumer’s needs above all else.

It relies on observing, with empathy, how people interact with their

environments, and employs an iterative, hands-on approach to
creating innovative solutions.

Design thinking is “human-centered,” meaning that it uses evidence of how

consumers (humans) interact with a product or service.
Importance of design thinking
1.Helps resolve problems that cannot be defined
Through careful observation, one can identify problems based on what
they see from real customers behavior rather than simply working off of
their ideas of the consumer. This helps define ambiguous problems and in
turn makes it easier to surface solutions.

2.Helps to solve human needs

Using an observational, human-centric approach, realize areas of concern
from the customer that they hadn’t previously thought of, those that the
customer may not even be aware of. Design thinking can provide
solutions to the problems once they’re identified.
3.Leads to creativity and innovativeness
With design thinking helping surface some customer problems which otherwise may
never been known, it helps to tackle those problems often lead to no innovative
solutions

4.Makes organizations more efficient and efficiently

Design thinking helps creating prototypes and then testing to see how effective they are.
Design thinking process
1.Empathize
In this first stage, the designer observes the buyer to gain a deeper understanding of how
they interact with or are affected by a product or issue. Using empathy means
withholding judgment and of what the consumer needs. Observing with empathy is
powerful because it can uncovers issues the consumer didn’t even know they had or that
they could not themselves verbalize. From this point, it’s easier to understand the human
need for which you are designing.
2. Define
In this second stage, you gather your observations from the first stage in order to define
the problem you’re trying to solve. Think about the difficulties your buyers are brushing
up against, what they repeatedly struggle with, and what you’ve gleaned from how
they’re affected by the issue. Once you synthesize your findings, you are able to define
the problem they face.
3. Idea generation
This involves coming up with ideas on how to solve the problems you’ve identified. This
idea generation stage could be done in a group, where your team gathers in an office
space that encourages creativity and collaboration, an innovation lab, or can be done solo.
The important part is to generate a bunch of different ideas. At the end of this process,
you’ll come up with a few ideas with which to move forward.

4. Prototype/Original model
This is the stage that turns ideas into an actual solution. Prototypes are not meant to be
perfect. They help to come up with a concrete version of the idea to see how it is accepted
by consumers. An examples of a prototype is a video that demonstrates streamlined
logistic processes in an organization
5. Test
Once you give a prototyped solution to consumers, you must observe how they interact
with it. This testing stage is the one in which you collect feedback on your work.
Benefits of Design thinking

1.Collaborative
This is because it obtains feedback from the entire team. It engages with people who can
give a different suggestion and offer creative new ideas to solving problems.
2.User-Focused
The design thinking process arises from and revolves around the consumer. Whether it’s a
new product, technology, or service, defining who will use it and how is key to
understanding how to develop it.
3.Carefully Tested
This leads to breakthroughs or prevent a bad investment of time, money, labor, and
materials.
4.Adaptable
Design thinking methodology can be used anywhere, from product development and
finance to customer service.
