Introduction-to-Area-Calculation PPT 2
Calculation
Area is a fundamental concept in mathematics that describes the size of
a two-dimensional shape. Understanding how to calculate the area of
different shapes, such as squares and rectangles, is an essential skill for
students to develop.

ISLAMIC INTEGRATION
In the light of Islam, the practical applications of calculating the area of squares
and rectangles are not merely technical exercises but are deeply connected to
broader ethical, spiritual, and social values. Whether it’s ensuring fairness in
property distribution, improving living conditions, managing resources
responsibly, or fostering intellectual growth, the integration of mathematical
principles with Islamic teachings underscores a holistic approach to knowledge
and its applications.
FLASHBACK
"Let’s take a moment to revisit what we learned about calculating the area
of squares and rectangles. Remember how we discovered that the area
of a shape tells us how much space it covers?
For a square, we use the formula A = s², where s is the length of one side.
This is because all four sides of a square are equal, so if one side is 6 units long,
we simply multiply 6 by itself to get the area: 6 × 6 = 36 square units.
Now, let’s recall the area of a rectangle. The formula here is A = l × w,
where l stands for length and w stands for width. For example, if we have a
rectangle that is 6 units long and 4 units wide, we calculate its area by
multiplying these dimensions: 6 × 4 = 24 square units.

2 Design
Area calculations are crucial in the design of furniture, layouts, and other spaces to ensure optimal
use of available space.
3 Resource Management
Knowing the area of land, fields, or gardens helps in planning and managing agricultural resources
and production.
4 Logistics
Area calculations are used to determine the size and capacity of transportation vehicles, storage
facilities, and other logistics-related applications.

What is a Square?
A square is a special type of rectangle where all four sides are equal in length. This means it has four right angles and four
equal sides, making it a regular shape.
The diagonals of a square also have some unique properties - they are equal in length and intersect at perfect right angles,
creating an X shape.

Calculating the Area of a Square
1 Side Length
To calculate the area of a square, you need to know the length of
one of its sides.
2 Formula
The formula for the area of a square is: Area = side length x side
length.
3 Example
If a square has a side length of 5 units, the area would be 5 x 5 =
25 square units.
