Wiki?
I. What is Wiki?
This is a website that is collaborative in
nature. It means that the user using this site
can participate with a creator of a written work
in a wiki. To work jointly means one can add,
modify, edit, delete revise or update some of
the content without any restriction.
However,
as a responsible user, you should cite your
reliable sources from which the information
you have added in the website can be located.
The term wiki was originally named Wiki wiki
Web. This was introduced by Ward Cunningham
in 1995. This word came from the Hawaiian
“Wiki wiki” which means fast or quick.

II. Example of Wikis
a. Wikipedia – this is free,
open and multilingual online
encyclopedia
where any user can
collaborate, contribute and
edit the article.
b. Wikiwikiweb – this is the oldest,
open, easiest, and fastest web-based
collaborative tool in the world.

c. Wiktionary – this is an online


multilingual dictionary that contains
the meaning, origin, and
pronunciation of words.
d. Wikiquote – this is the collection of
reference or quotations from well- known
people, books, movies, etc.
e. Wikiversity – this sites supports free
learning communication, projects, materials,
and other learning resources that may be
used in all levels,
types and styles of education
f. Wikitravel – this is a travel guide
that uses a Wikimedia’s software. It
provides information about the
history, people, culture, and
background of different countries.
g. Wikispecies – this is a directory of
species of all forms of life raging from
Animalia, plantae, fungi, bacteria,
etc.
h. Wikinews – this is a compilation
of news story made possible
through collaborative journalism.
i. Wikibooks – this is a free library
of educational books and manuals
that maybe edited, changed, and
improved by anyone.

The term wiki comes from the
word wikiwiki which means
“quick” in
Hawaiian. The first wiki was
created by Ward Cunningham in
1995.
Read the following situations
carefully. Then answer the

your activity sheet.
1. Someone send a message to you,
saying they need your personal
information, including your account and
password to be able to continue searching
in wikipedia. What will you do?

III. Steps in using Wiki:
a. Open your browser. Some are Google
Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla
Firefox.
b. Type in the content that you want to look
for in wiki in the search bar.
c. Select the Wiki page from the results or
finding from your previous
search.
d. You will be directed to the website.
e. From there, you will find information
about the topic you are searching for.
f. If the website does not contain the
information you need, click the Back
button and select another search result.
IV. Safety Tips When Going Online
1. Be truthful in your content. Write only
what is based on facts and
real-life experience and not on fiction.
2. Avoid using words that are offensive to
people in general.
3. Do not attack personalities. Give respect to
people no matter what
they do or say.
4. Plan the content of your wiki carefully.
Cite reliable and recognized sources if
you are to edit some parts of the content
of another writer
5. Give credit where credit is due. Cite
those who acted as resource persons to
your wiki content.

for your answers.
What is a blog?
Are you interesting
on blogging?
The 21st century is known to be the age of
technology where people divert from the
traditional way of communication to using the
various social media in the internet. People
divert to social media as it is convenient and
efficient in growing a business, broadcasting
news, sending messages, posting information,
and sharing opinions and stories.
One common social media in the internet is a blog. Blog (or
weblog) is a personal diary in website where bloggers write
their own experiences, feelings, and observations. Blog’s
categories could be food, travel, business, relationship,
education, etc. Examples of blogging sites are
WordPress.org, WordPress.com, Wix.com, Joomla.com, and
more. Most blogs are public and interactive where readers
like us can
leave a comment. As both bloggers and readers, it is
essential that we should pay attention on the responsible
manner in posting and sharing materials on blogs to avoid
cybercrimes.
In posting and sharing materials on the
blogs, remember these:

1. Use your own image as your profile


picture.
2. Do not post degrading comments and
fake news.
3. Ask permission and credit the owner
when using his contents.
4. Do not post obscene images and
videos.
5. Check before you tag people in your
post.
6. Respond and thank those who reacted.
7. Some messages should be privately
sent.
8. Criticize constructively backed up by
evidence.
