INTRODUCTION TO

ENGINEERING

BY PRANJAL RAJ ,
ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
1ST YEAR
BATCH OF 2024
FIRST DAY OF ELECTRONICS INDUCTION PROGRAM
LAB VISIT AT VIT TECHNOLOGY TOWER

What we have learnt and acknowledged :

At the first day of our School Induction Program , we got a chance to visit
all the labs related to our curriculum that are labs related to Electronics
and Communication , we have learnt about all of them as listed below :
I. OPTICAL COMMUNICATION LAB :-
In the Optical Communication Lab , we have
been told about various terms related to optics such
as Optical fibre wire used to transfer signal through
long distances , its parts such as claddings , core , and
also some 12th class physics terms such as numerical aperture , refractive
index , etc . Next we have been taught about waveguides and its different types of parts
such circular to rectangular waveguide , square waveguide , and we have been told about
the connection between software use of
electronics so that we can design the waveguide in the computer and see it’s working in the
computer itself .

II. MICROWAVE ENGINEERING LAB :-

In the Microwave lab , we saw different
machines related to the study and design of
Microwave circuits , components and systems .
The devices that pertain to this field are antenna
, radar , transmission lines , remote sensing , we
were told about the measurements that are taken during different tasks and
experiments .
We have been also taught about the resistors , capacitors , and
Inductors used with lower frequency radio waves .
III. NETWORKING LAB :-
In this lab we were told about the types of networking
such LAN ( Local Area Network ) , WAN ( Wide Area
Network ) , MAN ( Metropolitan Area Network ) , and
also about the virtual and physical network building .

IV . DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB :-

In this lab we were about how the real world signals
such as audio , voice , video , temperature ,
pressure , or position are been digitalized and also
mathematically , functions like add , subtract , etc .
We were told that when we give some input and a
a task is required to be done then how the output is
v. ADVANCED DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB :-

In the advanced digital signal processing lab ,

we were told about how we can make different types
of filter for clearing or making the quality of an image
much better than before. And how we will use
MATLAB , to write the programming for our filter .

VI. ANALOG SYSTEM LAB :-

In this lab we were told about the difference between the

digital and analog signals . We were also taught about how
analog signals are being converted to digital signals and how
digital signals are again converted back to analog signals by
a method called as Sampling. We also different machines to
do implement the above process .
VII. SENSORS SYSTEMS LAB:-

In the sensors systems lab we were told

how we will make software and program our
own sensor which help to detect any object in
the environment and how we can solve real
life problems by the use of this technology .
And also about how we can use virtual reality
and visualizations to make a sensory enhancement.

VIII. ADVANCED MICROCONTROLLER AND RTOS LAB :-

In the Advanced Microcontroller lab , we were told

about how microcontrollers are a self consist of a
system with a processor memory combine peripherals ,
and it may as an embedded system . Embedded system is
applied to make consumer electronic products , such as MP3
Player , Mobile Phones , Video Gaming Consoles , etc .
SECOND DAY OF ELECTRONICS INDUCTION
PROGRAM
Outcome Based Education (OBE) Induction at VIT
Technology Tower
What we have learnt and acknowledged :-
Here we have been told that our prestigious institution does not only teaches
us our program curriculum , but also it is student centered . It means that the
outcome of the program is being measured time to time by our institution by
means of different assessments and quizzes , also some helpful alumni
interactions which gives us full exposure to the real world and makes us
industry ready.
Our institute believe on the outcomes of the students according to the
principles of OBE . We understand how outcome is more important than only
studying and acquiring credits in the course .
Our institute have adopted the OBE many years before and teached well under
their helpful guidance . They not only helps student succeed at the time of
study but also ask for their success at different stages of their life and take their
feedback to resolve the mistakes and again teach the juniors without making
those mistakes again which is the basic principle of an OBE curriculum .
WASHINGTON ACCORD – NBA
(INDIA) - 2014
We have been taught about the Washington Accord , it is an
International Agreement between bodies responsible for accrediting
Engineering Degree Programs .
HOW TO MEASURE OUTCOMES ?
We were told about BENJAMIN BLOOM (1913 – 1999 )
THIRD DAY OF ELECTRONICS
INDUCTION PROGRAM
We had an Alumni Interaction with Ganesh Ramasubban who was an
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering student at VIT ,
VELLORE in the batch of 2008 who is currently working as a Software
Development Manager at AMAZON in Chennai.
He answered all our queries related to industry , and our right steps
towards our success , and also told his way of thinking and learning
new things .
He told us about how companies work and what do they want from
future engineers and what type of skill they are looking for . Also how
to prepare for the interview and how to prepare for the HR rounds
He has expertise in many fields such as cross functional team
management including Software Development , Technical Program
Management , etc.
