Illustrating Triangle

CongruenceTopic 3
Activity: Identify V-A-S (Vertices – Angles – Sides)
Directions: Identify the vertices, angles, and sides of
each triangle. Then, answer the questions below using
complete sentences.
Definition of Correspondence
- Pairing the parts of one group to the parts
of another group is called correspondence.
Correspondence uses the notation “↔ ”.

Assume 𝛥𝑁𝐴𝑇 coincides with 𝛥𝐺𝐸𝑂, such that the vertices of 𝛥𝑁𝐴𝑇 fit
exactly over the vertices of 𝛥𝐺𝐸𝑂 . The correspondence can be created
between triangles.
• In naming congruent triangles, the order of the
letters representing the vertices of one triangle
shall be written in the same order as their
corresponding vertices in the other triangle.

Definition of Congruent Triangles
- Two triangles are congruent if and only if
the corresponding sides and the corresponding
angles are congruent.

(𝛥𝑁𝐴𝑇 ≅ 𝛥𝐺𝐸𝑂 is read as “triangle 𝑁 − 𝐴 − 𝑇 is congruent

to triangle 𝐺 − 𝐸 − 𝑂”) It implies that the corresponding
parts of congruent triangles are also congruent.
CPCTC
- Corresponding Parts of Congruent
Triangles are Congruent.
Example 1:
𝛥𝐶𝐴𝑇 ≅ 𝛥𝐷𝑂𝐺. Write down the pairs of
congruent angles and sides.
Example 2:
𝛥PSA ≅ 𝛥NSO. Write down the pairs of
congruent angles and sides.
Example 3: given ∆SET ≅ ∆KEN, give all the
corresponding congruent parts.

2. 𝛥𝑆𝑇𝑅 ≅ 𝛥𝑅𝐴𝑆. Name the six pairs of
corresponding congruent parts.

Topic 4
Included angle is the angle
between two sides of a triangle
Included side is the side common
to two angles of a triangle.
SAS (Side-Angle-Side) Congruence
Postulate
- If two sides and an included
angle of one triangle are congruent to
the corresponding two sides and the
included angle of another triangle, then
the triangles are congruent.
Example 1: If 𝐴𝐵≅ 𝐷𝐸, ∠A≅∠D,
𝐶𝐴≅𝐹𝐷, then ∆ABC ≅ ∆DEF by SAS

2. ASA (Angle-Side-Angle) Congruence
Postulate
- If two angles and the included
side of one triangle are congruent to
the corresponding two angles and an
included side of another triangle,
then the triangles are congruent.

3. SSS (Side-Side-Side) Congruence
Postulate
- If three sides of one triangle
are congruent to the corresponding
three sides of another triangle, then
the triangles are congruent.
Example 1: If 𝐴𝐵̅̅̅̅ ≅ 𝐷𝐸̅̅̅̅, ̅𝐵𝐶̅̅̅ ≅ 𝐸𝐹̅̅̅̅, 𝐶𝐴̅̅̅̅

included side of one triangle are
